Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Found Near Saguaro National Park

This homeowner, a previous customer, has had several Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes in her yard before, which isn’t surprising with Saguaro National Park just a stone’s throw away. Her landscaper was clearing weeds along the property when he spotted this Western Diamondback Rattlesnake. When we arrived, the snake had started making its way toward a gate, but we were able to secure it in the bucket before it made it out. It was then released to a wash within its estimated home range into a deep rodent burrow.

Rattlesnake in a Crawl Space

A customer watched a snake slip into a storage space and asked us to come take a look. We found it wedged behind some boxes against the back wall. The home sits in a built-up area, but it’s only about 20 yards from a large wash on Tucson’s east side, so that’s where we released it at an appropriate distance from the capture site. When we first set it at the entrance of a packrat nest it tucked its head and froze, then it figured out it was free and disappeared inside. Tucson, AZ

Two Rattlesnakes Under A Shed In Picture Rocks

Gary carefully extracted two Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes from under a shed in the Picture Rocks area. The owner helped get the old shed up using a bobcat! Both snakes had an interesting reddish hue – not uncommon, but these were on the far end of “colorful” for Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes in the region. Both were relocated together to suitable habitat for hibernation … not that they’ll be doing that for long.
