Sidewinder in Casa Grande

A rare snake for us to get on a call, this Sonoran Sidewinder was curled up in the only shaded part of the yard this afternoon in Casa Grande. With temperatures in the low 100s, this snake had little choice but to stay put and wait until after sunset to make any moves.

The homeowner mentioned her neighbors thought they had seen the same snake in their yard the night before but lost sight of it, so hopefully this was the right one.

Austin relocated the snake to suitable habitat within its estimated home range, placing it into a rodent hole at the base of a large bush.

Gophersnake Under the Grill

This beautiful Sonoran Gophersnake decided to take a siesta under an outdoor grill and was fast asleep until Jon gently interrupted. With several pockets of desert scattered throughout the neighborhood, there are plenty of places for snakes to move through and settle in. Jon safely relocated it to a good spot and released it into a gopher burrow within its estimated home range, though it was a little too quick to dive in for a release photo.

Rattlesnake Sounds Like a Gas Leak

These homeowners thought they might have a gas leak when they started hearing a strange noise coming from behind the stove. When they checked it out, it turned out to be a little Western Diamondback rattlesnake that had snuck inside through an open door. The snake was safely removed and relocated to suitable habitat nearby. East Tucson.

Rattlesnakes Don’t Eat Tacos

This western diamondback rattlesnake had been making itself at home at a Del Taco for the past 3 days per the employees. He was showing up in the same spot in the afternoon, seen when taking out trash, and then would disappear at night. They did not know where the snake was when I arrived. I had flipped over a rat trap in the back parking lot several times. I lifted it up with tongs and felt satisfied that I could not feel the weight of a snake inside. I began to check the perimeter of the restaurant with no luck. The employee then showed me a photo of the snake and I realized it was very, very small. I went back to the rat trap, shook it vigorously, and out came the young snake! He was relocated to a much better taco-less home in the desert. Stay spicy, my friend.

Rattlesnake In The Backyard

A homeowner saw a young rattlesnake in the yard and hoped it would move on, but gave us a call after about 45 minutes. Jeff got there and the snake had disappeared, but he saw it near its original location and was able to safely capture it. He took it to a packrat nest (the pile of sticks) in a rock pile that would be a very good spot for the winter.

Rattlesnake in the Garage

One of many garage diamondbacks to come this year. The homeowner is from Canada and was absolutely shocked when he opened his garage door and came incredibly close to stepping on this large adult diamondback. The garage was sealed very well so the snake likely entered when the garage door was open. The homeowner says that he does tend to leave the door open for long periods of time here and there, which explains how it got in. The snake was probably trapped inside so its good that we got it out. Austin took it out into natural desert and found a nice packrat nest alongside a small drainage.

Rattlesnake Bites a Dog in Scottsdale

Early in the morning, while it was still dark, the homeowner heard her dog crying outside, as if something had happened. She quickly rushed out, brought her dog inside, and noticed some swelling on its face. Concerned, she took the dog to the vet, who confirmed it had been bitten by a rattlesnake. A few hours later, she called us to check the yard. When Marissa arrived, she saw the snake moving along the side of the fence in the backyard. The home was surrounded by desert and was located right beside a wash. The dog was still at the vet when I got there. This incident took place in Scottsdale.
