Trenching Worker -> Apprentice (Level 1) Snake Fence Installer

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team to assist our Snake Fence Installation team with trenching and grounds tasks. This role is part time, as needed, with peak activity during the months of March through November. Tasks include trenching and excavation, backfill, vegetation removal, removal of existing snake-fence materials and haul-away, and other miscellaneous projects as needed.

Opportunities may exist for long-term employment with the Snake Fence Installation, offering opportunities for advancement and higher pay upon completion of training.

Please note: This position is not one that should be considered a stepping stone to more animal-related work, such as snake removal or snake relocation. While those opportunites could exist in the future, this is not guaranteed. This position is primarily labor-oriented, leading to a more technical construction-type role as need dictates. If your interest is in direct conservation work, snake relocation, research, or other animal-related work, this is likely not the position for you.

Compensation and Benefits:

• $25 hourly compensation
• Opportunity for advancement to more complex and higher-paying positions.

Apprentice (Level 1) Snake Fence Installer

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as an Apprentice (Level 1) Snake Fence Installer. In this role, you will learn to install rattlesnake prevention materials to safeguard customer properties against rattlesnake intrusion. This position serves as the foundation for a longer-term career path in snake fence installation, offering opportunities for advancement and higher pay upon completion of training. The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training and tools to excel in this highly technical role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Learn to install rattlesnake prevention materials in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
• Assist in the construction of snake fences, including digging, measuring, cutting, and securing materials.
• Work collaboratively with experienced professionals to develop technical skills and craftsmanship.
• Maintain a high standard of quality and attention to detail in all installations.
• Incorporate knowledge of native wildlife behavior and habitat into fence construction to enhance effectiveness (training provided).
• Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines at all times to ensure a safe working environment.
• Demonstrate professionalism and excellent customer service when interacting with clients.
• Optional participation in the rattlesnake relocation hotline for additional income and experience.

Qualifications:

• Ability to work well in a team environment and follow instructions closely.
• Be self-organizing and motivating, able to work (in time) and accomplish goals reliably without direct supervision
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

• Advancement and wage increase, depending on performance and availability, in ~3 months with a full-time schedule.

Snake Relocator (Apprentice Level 1)

Location: central, Cave Creek, Scottsdale

We are looking for responsible, conservation-minded people who want to help us keep snakes and people safe from one another.

Requirements

• Reliable vehicle
• Smart phone (text capable)
• Computer with internet access
• Completely clean record with the Arizona Game & Fish Department

If ANY of the following apply to you, do not contact us.

• Own any illegal animals or engage in any illegal collection/trade
• Free-handle rattlesnakes
• Unwilling to wear safety equipment and tongs
• Unwilling to change how you prefer to capture rattlesnakes

These would be great to have, but are not required

• Knowledge of native reptiles
• Financially stable (this is a seasonal contract)
• Desire to educate and continue learning

While lots of experience is great, we've learned that the right attitude and ability to learn can go much further than years of previous snake handling. If you have a love of native reptiles and desire to learn, we can teach the rest. Every situation is different - we are interested in people who fit our outlook towards reptile conservation and will enjoy some exciting work. If you are looking to flesh out your speck collection or send gila monsters to your friends in other states, or laugh at people who wear safety equipment while working with rattlesnakes, this isn't for you.
