The owner of a home in a rural area of Surprise called after finding a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake curled up in ambush beside a watering dish frequently visited by quail and rabbits.
Six days later, she called us again. This time, a Sidewinder was sitting in the exact same spot, presumably there for the exact same reason.
It’s a great example of how rattlesnakes recognize and take advantage of productive hunting locations. The water itself may be attractive, but a steady stream of potential prey can make the area around it an excellent place to wait for a meal.
Jason relocated both snakes into deep cover on the State Trust Land adjacent to the property.
