This Scottsdale homeowner was taking the trash cans from the backyard to the curb when she spotted a snake tucked beneath one of them. Thinking it was a rattlesnake, she gave us a call. When we arrived, it turned out to be a Sonoran Gophersnake, much to her relief. Even in neighborhoods with only small pockets of native habitat scattered between homes, these snakes can still show up while searching for food, water, or shelter. The snake was safely relocated to suitable habitat within its native range, where it can continue doing its job of helping keep rodent populations in check.
