A Big Western Diamondback Out Late at Night

Late at night, this big Western Diamondback Rattlesnake was found hanging around a San Tan Valley property that didn’t offer much in the way of natural cover. There were, however, food and water sources available on the property, which may help explain why the rattlesnake was spending time there.

CJ safely removed the unusually calm Western Diamondback Rattlesnake and found a much better place for him in suitable habitat nearby. A deep, north-facing cave shaded by a palo verde on the western flank provided plenty of protection and a good place to escape the heat.
