This Sidewinder was found resting beneath some furniture on the back patio of a home in Casa Grande.
The property is completely surrounded by open desert, and both side gates had large gaps underneath them. For a Sidewinder this small, getting into the backyard wouldn’t have required much effort. Once inside, the shaded patio furniture provided a pretty reasonable place to spend some time out of the sun.
Austin captured the snake and relocated it within its estimated home range, releasing it directly into a rodent burrow beneath a creosote bush in the nearby desert.
