A homeowner stepped outside and found a large, beautiful Coachwhip wedged tightly beneath the metal flashing on the side of her house. She sent Josh photos before he arrived, which helped him prepare for the unusual rescue. As he walked back to his van to grab tools, he happened to spot another large Coachwhip crossing the driveway and disappearing into the surrounding desert, a good reminder of just how much suitable habitat surrounded the home.
Using a few hand tools and a little cooking spray for lubrication, Josh carefully flexed the metal flashing away from the stucco wall while the snake worked from the other side. It became a coordinated effort, with the flashing moving just enough to give the Coachwhip the leverage it needed to slowly free itself. After several minutes, the snake slipped free without injury and immediately disappeared back into the surrounding habitat. Fortunately, the homeowner enjoys having native wildlife on the property, making this a perfect ending for a snake that could continue living within its native home range.
