These are always difficult and dangerous situations. Rosemary, which is often ironically planted due to a rumor that it repels rattlesnakes, is an amazing attractant of them instead. The dense cover, high ambient moisture, numerous rodents and burrows, and general inaccessibility can’t be ignored by a rattlesnake looking for a place to live. For us, it means digging through dense undergrowth with poor visibility, with often multiple rattlesnakes in close proximity. Thankfully after awhile, Marissa found the snake in this bush, and was able to get it back to the nearby preserve.
