Mojave Rattlesnake Hibernating On Patio

Mojave Rattlesnake Hibernating On Patio

A midnight call to Marana in mid-November resulted in this small Mojave Rattlesnake getting a ride from the sandals to the desert. This snake had almost certainly been there for several weeks at this point, making small adjustments in location and position based on daily conditions, and other factors. This complicated behavior is broadly described as hibernation, which is a very different situation in reality than the misconception widely discussed. This is all factored into the release site, which must emulate these conditions to allow the snake to continue hibernating and give the best chance possible for long term survival.
