Baby rattlesnakes can be very small. Typically, in Arizona, the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake is around 8 to 10 inches long at birth.
Notes from Savannah on a recent call: “Little mimi cutie pie!!! Dog alerted the homeowners to this one late at night and they had it removed. They often toss them over the fence but its size made them concerned there was more or a ‘nest’ nearby. I searched their yards, reassured them any snakes were likely in the wash next to them and rattlesnake fencing would be an effective preventative measure. Released into heavy cover with evidence of rodents near a wash on public lands. “
This snake is small, but was born in 2024.
