This little Western Diamondback Rattlesnake was about as small as they get, maybe 7″ long and brand new. The homeowner spotted it in the backyard in north Phoenix, and called Marissa to come help the little one be somewhere else.

Nik was talking to a homeowner after he just caught the rattlesnake they’d called him for, and noticed this out of the corner of his eye. At this point, to us, that pattern might as well glow. It got a ride with the other one to more suitable surroundings.

This Western Diamondback Rattlesnake was found in late November on a back patio next to the Phoenix Mountains. It had likely been there for a few weeks at that point. Bryce made sure it was moved to suitable winter refugia to hibernate safely.

Derek found this Western Diamondback Rattlesnake in an odd part of town without any obvious native habitat nearby. The homeowner was watering her plants and discovered the snake hiding out up off the ground. She’d lived in the home for 40 years without seeing a rattlesnake before that.

This Western Diamondback Rattlesnake was found at a hospital in Tucson, relatively far from the nearest suitable habitat. Some of these situations are tricky, where it’s clear that a snake has managed to survive in a heavily developed area, despite traffic and people, long after the bulldozers are gone.
