A late-night call for a little Western Diamondback Rattlesnake took CJ to a brand-new development in Cave Creek. Unfortunately, it’s a story we see often. As construction expands into undeveloped areas, snakes can find themselves displaced from the habitat they’ve relied on.
Since this young rattlesnake was clearly born last summer, CJ felt comfortable relocating it to a more stable area that is less likely to be developed in the near future. After a short search, he found a perfect little cave beneath some discarded construction debris that offered plenty of shelter and security.
As a bonus, the release site also featured a Western Banded Gecko, making for a nice habitat cameo before the young rattlesnake disappeared into its new refuge within its estimated home range.
