Savannah was called to a Cave Creek home to see this little Longnosed Snake shaking its tail and tryings its best to look threatening. At this size, this species is one of the most common to find in homes during the late season, typically found in bathrooms and laundryrooms. They are looking for first meals and hiding spots in advance of the coming cool season, and just trying not to be a meal for something else in the meantime.

The clean bands and heavy black often leads to a false identification of a kingsnake. In fact, many locals don’t even know this species exists, based on the frequency of its misidentification. In this instance, you can see faint grey smudges in the sides of the black bands, and just a hint of orange here and there. The face, too, is telling, with its namesake LONG NOSE.
