Marana | 85743 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Property owner called to say he had revealed two rattlesnakes when demolishing sone old structures on a lot. The property had various sheds, wood and debris piles and an old trailer home. There were at least seven pack rat nests just in the area surrounding the trailer. Owner used a Bobcat to lift one of the sheds and two Western Diamondbacks were reveled. Both snakes were captured with tongs and went into the bucket without fuss. Both snakes appeared to be male and they had a more reddish appearance than the ones i’m used to seeing in the nearby Tucson mountains. |

I was able to easily grab the male but the female worked her way up between the house and the tiles and had to be pushed out with my hook. They were bucketed and released into some large boulders up a hillside. |

When I arrived it had taken refuge behind a large blue pot against the back wall of the residence. The snake came in through one of the two gates on either side of the house where there were gaps upwards of 3”. The snake was quickly captured and released north west of the new development into a deep pack rack nest just off of a wash. |

The snake could have crawled over but the drop was about 6 feet. After walking the property the likely entrance was a drain block in the concrete fence or a gap in the gate. The snake decided to camp out in a Bougainvillea bush and held on tight. I had to spray him with a hose and ended up catching him at the very top of the bush. He was relocated close by in a large pack rat nest. |

A quick look around told me the snake came up one of the side yards where there were large gaps between the gates and the house. This large female western diamondback appears to have just eaten and was not thrilled for the car ride. |

He had a view fence that backed up to desert. He had his landscaper do his fencing which was half inch mesh not tall enough and the gate had big gaps. |

They put it in a bucket and called me today. While searching around I found a juvenile rattlesnake under a mini fridge on the back patio. The lady ended up being allergic to both anti venoms so it was worse than expected. The yard is open but has a lot of desert around it. They are just renting so fencing is not an option. There was a hot tub on the patio that could have been a place the snake was hanging out. |

Area where snake was found is in the center of a farm. A walk around of the farm revealed a significant amount of clutter and evidence of rodents but no significant evidence that snakes had been spending significant time in the area however with the wealth of hiding places and water sources it is likely. The property sits at the mouth of a large and resource rich wash that is likely a pathway for rattlesnakes coming from the preserve area |

Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Received a call about snake on back porch of a short-term rental property. Customer text me photo and I confirmed it was an atrox in ambush underneath stucco lip of outside wall. When I arrived to property customer met me outside and escorted me through the home. Customer stated their small dog was the one who initially noticed the snake. Observed snake in same position as photo just outside the sliding glass door. Used hook to pull snake from underneath the lip of stucco wall and then utilized tongs to capture snake and bucket with no issue. Snake began rattling once in bucket. Performed inspection of back yard. Property had desert wash than ran south and east of the property. Property had snake fencing installed not by RS. Noted a gate on the north end of yard that had hole in snake mesh on the corner where hinge was. Mesh went up approximately 24” on gate. I suspect this is where the snake entered. Since this was a short-term rental I mentioned to the customer to have landlord reach out to RS for fencing quote. Yard was neat and tidy with not many places for snake to seek refuge. No other snakes found. Customer asked what they should do when the dog needs to use the restroom. I encouraged customer to visually inspect yard before letting dog out and to be with her while she uses the bathroom. |

When I arrived, it had easily slithered under the gate and come into the front yard. The homeowner has block walls in most areas, with 1 area with some view fence. There are gaps on both sides of his house where he had stacked bricks to keep out snakes but the baby atrox was able to climb through. He is very interested in someone coming out and giving him a quote for fencing improvements. |

Upon arrival found customer and his neighbor using a 12 foot tree trimming pole to pin the back of the snake. That was taking cover in the shrubbery that lines the front walkway. Captured an average sized adult western diamondback. This snake likely entered the neighborhood through one of the open cul de sacs and got lost in the maze. It seemed to be a healthy weight indicating it had either not been trapped in the neighborhood long, or that it was thriving while it was in there. |
