12:00 PM
Phoenix 85085 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Arrived at the customer’s home for a call about two rattlesnakes in the front yard. The family was gathered in the driveway with several children present. The customer pointed to a cassia bush, where I observed two smaller adult Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes (C. atrox) locked in mating. The snakes appeared aware of the crowd but remained locked, with the male twitching his head. I secured the area and used tongs to lift one snake and a hook to lift the other, providing additional support. I placed the bucket in the shade and then inspected both the front and back yards. The home has a wash directly to the east that runs up a hill into open habitat. The front yard and the mouth of the wash blend together, and this is where the snakes were found. No additional snakes were found on the property. The backyard was generally neat and tidy, with few areas where a snake could hide for long. The customer has one small dog. The backyard is enclosed by a high block wall, with one gate on the west side. The customer has installed a framed screen directly in the gate opening, requiring anyone entering the yard to step over it. The side yard on the west side of the house has drainage blocks, which I pointed out to the customer as a potential access point. I offered a free fencing quote, but the customer did not respond to the offer.

9:30 AM
Phoenix 85048 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was out doing some landscaping at 6 a.m. when she heard a rattle and saw the tail end of a rattlesnake disappear into a bush. They didn’t call me for another three hours. When I checked the same bush, the snake was coiled under some leaf litter. It was an overcast day with light, intermittent rain. The home has a large drainage area next to it and a desert hillside behind it. The vegetation in the yard is well maintained. The property has a view fence and a single gate.

9:00 AM
Phoenix 85054 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner went out to clean up dog poop in the backyard when she saw a rattlesnake coiled up against the house. The snake was next to a large cage the dogs use in the backyard to stay safe from predators. The dog pen was filled with waste, and the snake was in ambush nearby, so I suspect there were rodents there last night. The home has a view fence and backs up to a golf course and a large area of desert. She just wants the dog pen snake-proofed.

11:30 AM
Phoenix 85041 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was about to step outside when they noticed a western diamondback rattlesnake right by the back door. By the time I arrived, it had moved under the outdoor refrigerator. After I pulled the fridge out, the snake moved behind the back wall of the outdoor kitchen, which required me to flood it out. Once it emerged, it started drinking the water, so once it was in the bucket it was treated to more water. There are access points under both side gates. The snake was released into the South Mountain Preserve, which is almost certainly where it came from.

Phoenix 85085 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Very nice couple who had a Yorkie terrier who has been bit 4 times previously by rattlesnakes and almost lost its leg per their report. Their dog has completed rattlesnake training and they were happy the dog was scared of the bucket and snake inside. Snake was found in their shaded walkway and the couple diligently watched snake for 1.5 hours, in a chair eating snacks, from a safe distance as directed. Apparently we had been out a week earlier and they did not watch the snake and it got away/could not be found. The couple was very happy.

Phoenix 85042 Blacktailed Rattlesnake Customer called about a Blacktailed Rattlesnake curled up on his back patio next to his grill. The back yard is right up against the northern foothills of south mountain in a neighborhood that we commonly get called out to. The yard is not snake proof and has plenty of gaps and spaces for a snake to get through, I was shocked when they told me this was their first rattlesnake they’d seen in the time they’ve lived in this home. Inspected the rest of the yard and did not find any other snakes, recommended they trim back a few overgrown bushes to help see under them better. Snake was taken out into the hills to the SW of the home and placed in a deep tunnel in a wash wall that was surrounded by plenty of shady trees and rocky habitat suitable for this species.

Phoenix 85050 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Customer called about a western diamondback rattlesnake curled up on her front porch. Upon arrival the snake had moved into a small bush a couple of feet away. Took a while to find it, but I was able to locate the snake after about 15 minutes of very thorough searching. The front yard had several overgrown bushes that would provide excellent cover for any snake. I hiked the snake into a nearby patch of desert away from homes and placed it into a small rodent burrow underneath a creosote bush.

I went and asked to search the neighbors yard and found the gophersnake up in a boganvia on the other side of the yard. The homes were half a block away from some desert that is currently being demolished.

Phoenix 85050 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner called about a small rattlesnake on their back patio, right up against their sliding glass door. Upon arrival, the small Diamondback had managed to elude the homeowner. After a bit of searching, I was able to locate the little guy curled up against the base of a large palm tree. This yard has a ton of vegetation and a pool, perfect for any snake that is trying to find some relief from the impending summer heat. Snake was returned to the patch of desert across the street where it came from, I hiked it into an area that was far from the home and released it into a small burrow under a mesquite tree next to a wash.

Phoenix 85050 Sonoran Gophersnake A Sonoran gophersnake was found by a family with its head stuck in one glue trap and its tail stuck in another. I was able to place the snake and the glue traps directly into a bucket and take them home, where I poured olive oil on the snake, let it sit for some time, and then gently massaged the snake free without any damage. The snake was then given water and taken back to the area where it was originally found, and relocated 1.5 miles away in nearby natural desert, into a rodent burrow with surrounding desert tree cover.

Phoenix 85028 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake I received a call about a rattlesnake in a back yard in which RS had installed fencing under a year ago. Checked out and confirmed property was still under warranty. Arrived at property and was escorted to backyard. Customer’s had two big dogs both of which were caged when I arrived. Customer stated one of the dogs found the snake which the customers then saw the snake at the bottom of the stairs of the pool on the south side of property. When I arrived snake was crawling on the east side of the yard moving north toward a side yard. Snake was a sizable male atrox. Snake began rattling and postured until I captured it using tongs. Snake struck at tongs. Bucketed snake with no issue but snake struck towards the lid as I closed it. The snake did not stop rattling during the entire encounter and was heard still rattling as I left the release site. Did an inspection of the entire backyard and fence line. No other snakes found in yard. Fence line seemed good except for one small hole with wire running through in drainage hole on west side of yard. Customer states the person who installed that wire did cut the mesh. After inspecting the cut with wire running through I am confident that there was no way the snake I captured would have been able to fit through the hole. I’m fairly certain not even a neonate could fit through the hole as any gaps were less than 1/4”. Customer stated that there has been workers doing projects in the backyard recently but did not know if they proper gate open. I implored customer to inform the workers to watch the gate and not prop it open unattended. Customer agreed. I decided not to charge relocation fee. I’m aware that modifications void the warranty but I am certain the snake could not possible have entered through the modification. I informed the customer that someone from the fence team would contact them. Customer agreed.

Phoenix 85020 Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake Received a call from security guard at the Hilton stating they had a rattlesnake captured and the needed it taken away. Arrived at property and met security guards opposite the pool entrance. Security guards had snake in a canvas bag and stated they used tongs to capture it. The bag was sort of rigged like a pool net so guard held out the bag with a handle and I confirmed snake was a pyrrhus. I used tongs to transfer snake from bag into my bucket. Snake was very docile and inquisitive. Snake held its head upright and stared at myself and security guards. Snakes movements seemed sluggish but I saw no visible signs of injury. I asked security guards how/where they found it and they replied “over by the falls. Someone just saw it so I came and grabbed it”. When asked to elaborate the area where snake was first discovered guard just pointed to the NE. That area of the resort is the closest that faces open habitat.

Phoenix 85085 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake This homeowner has already had us out once this year, as their property is open to the desert and has everything a snake would like. There are dense, low bushes, plenty of food sources, and the homeowner even leaves water dishes throughout the property for wildlife. It’s no surprise this is the fourth one this year. This guy had found a comfortable spot on the patio, where I was able to grab him and relocate him southeast of the property, back into his home range.
