Thankfully the homeowners were outside and able to keep the kids away from the snake. It ended up coiling under a game in the driveway. The home had the preserve across the street.

The snake was very cold and didn’t move an inch. The home had a wood pile I think the snake may have been hanging out in there at some point because that was the only cover in the yard and it has been cold. The home has a South Mountain Preserve across the street.

I found the large rattlesnake on the opposite side of the yard coiled by the pool equipment. There really wasn’t anything in this yard for it to hibernate in. The home had a drainage by it that led straight to the state land. The home had a block fence and one gate.

11:00 AM		 Phoenix 85045 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The snake was spotted two days ago on the back patio but had disappeared. Today it was back on the back patio. It was a baby rattlesnake; there were little areas where the snake may have been hanging out to stay warm. There were a few bigger rocks in the back it could have been under also some erosion under the back patio it could have been in. The home was not far from south mountain.

On the side of the home there was a rocky drainage which is where I think the snake had been hanging out. Her yard didn’t have much for deep cover unless it had been in the garage which was sealed pretty well. The home had a view fence and one gate. The home had a South Mountain Preserve across the street.

2:30 PM		 Phoenix 85050 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was getting a package when the delivery driver spotted the baby rattlesnake coiled up by the front door. The courtyard had bricks for flooring and some up against the house weren’t sealed that well. The snake could have potentially been hibernating there, or their garage just around the corner had big gaps in the corners. Across the street they had a drainage area that had a bunch of stacked rocks which also would have provided a nice warm spot for winter. Hard to say for sure where it had been it was very small still.

Today he called and said he had a small snake in front of the garage door. He said it was harmless but I asked for a picture. It was a baby speckled rattlesnake. The garage door had poor seals and the snake was likely hibernating in the garage. The home backs up to south mountain.

9:00 AM		 Phoenix 85085 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was watering her plants out front when she spotted the little rattlesnake coiled by the front door. The husband tried to make it move but it just rattled and stayed put. The garage had gaps in it so it may have been staying there over the winter. The home had a drainage next to it that led to the bigger piece of desert.

5:00 PM		 Phoenix 85050 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was out in the back yard kicking the soccer ball with the kids when he heard a rattle. Where the turf met up with the block wall there was an area that was indented. They assumed it was under there. I pulled back the turf to discover a rattlesnake and a bloody squirrel. The squirrel was still alive but was on its way out so I put it with the snake. After looking around I believe the snake may have been hibernating in a near by hot tub and smelt out the rodent that had a hole under the turf. The home backs up to desert and has a view fence with high block bottom.

3:00 PM		 Phoenix 85032 Sonoran Gophersnake This was at an assisted living facility. The people there saw the snake in the back yard and knew it was harmless but wanted it gone. They thought it went in a hole so I watered it out but nothing came out. I then looked around and found it in an old horse stall. The back yard didn’t have much for vegetation but some stacked wood around the horse stall. The home was really close to the preserve.

When I arrived it had taken refuge behind a large blue pot against the back wall of the residence. The snake came in through one of the two gates on either side of the house where there were gaps upwards of 3”. The snake was quickly captured and released north west of the new development into a deep pack rack nest just off of a wash.

He went inside to call and then out front to wait with his neighbor. He could see the rattlesnake underneath the gate but then lost sight of it. When I arrived, it had easily slithered under the gate and come into the front yard. The homeowner has block walls in most areas, with 1 area with some view fence. There are gaps on both sides of his house where he had stacked bricks to keep out snakes but the baby atrox was able to climb through. He is very interested in someone coming out and giving him a quote for fencing improvements.

Upon arrival found customer and his neighbor using a 12 foot tree trimming pole to pin the back of the snake. That was taking cover in the shrubbery that lines the front walkway. Captured an average sized adult western diamondback. This snake likely entered the neighborhood through one of the open cul de sacs and got lost in the maze. It seemed to be a healthy weight indicating it had either not been trapped in the neighborhood long, or that it was thriving while it was in there.

Upon arrival, found a large and very healthy western diamondback hiding under a dense bush. The snake was moving towards and was captured just outside the fence of the pool area. Historically this is where most snakes are captured here as it is the closest point from the preserve offering cover and water.

7:00 PM		 Phoenix 85042 Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake Customer called about a Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake moving along the sidewalk of her neighbor’s home, lost sight of the snake. Her neighbors then placed a separate call for the same snake as it had curled up next to their side gate. Home is backed right up to the northern foothills of South Mountain. Snake was in the front yard, not much usable cover there so it was likely just passing through until it was noticed by the customer. I hiked the snake up into the hills and placed it in some deep cover in a wash surrounded by hills with large boulders.
