Phoenix 85042 Sonoran Gophersnake Homeowner called about a potential rattlesnake in her backyard that her dogs were barking at. Lost sight of the snake in the midst of the chaos, so I had to do a bit of searching. The yard was big and had lots of open space but also plenty of debris for snakes to hide in. My main focus was a tortoise burrow that was near where the snake was seen (they have a pet tortoise) so after checking the rest of the yard I started to flood the burrow. About 5 mins later a large Sonoran Gophersnake popped out. Confirmed with the lady that it was the snake she saw, she said it was rattling its tail and I explained to her that all snakes will do that when they feel threatened.
