The homeowners stated they get about one rattlesnake a year. They have also seen kingsnakes, coachwhips, and sonoran gophersnakes. The backyard had plenty of trash with sun rot and piles that were great habitat. I found a live rat when I was looking for the rattlesnake in their shed. They took our card and are interested in fencing but on the fence. I told them they can call anytime if they change their mind for a free quote.

He is no stranger to rattlesnakes, as he’s had 17 removed from his property in the past year or so. Thankfully he kept an eye on it while I was en route, and when I arrived it was sitting in ambush under a prickly pear. I secured the snake in the bucket and relocated it to a suitable habitat within its home range: down into a rodent burrow surrounded by cover.

Unsure of the identity of the snake, the homeowner sent a photo to confirm the species. Being a western diamondback homeowners wanted snake to be removed. Snake had moved from its original position under the plant pot towards a disassembled dog crate where it was then captured. The surrounding area where the snake was located is other homes that are wall-to-wall. Homeowner did confirm that there is a wash located at the back of the home sharing a wall with them.

9:00 PM		 Phoenix 85054 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake A call by nighttime security at the American Express offices in North Phoenix to Burns Pest Elimination was transferred to us to remove a rattlesnake. I have been contacted by Burns in the past to remove a snake from this same location. The campus is comprised of several large office buildings and is surrounded by a small and quickly shrinking area of native desert. When I arrived, security personnel had already caught the young snake and had it waiting for me in a bucket. Considering the future development in the surrounding area, I decided to relocate the snake slightly further away from the spot of capture than I usually would.

When I arrived he discovered that his dog was limping and appeared to have been bitten. Flank looked slightly swollen. The snake, a large male Western Diamondback Rattlesnake was captured and taken to an appropriate release site.

This is the second rattlesnake they have had relocated from their backyard this year. They previously used Arizona rattlesnake services, which referred them to us. This time when I arrived the snake was as described curled up in the backyard and was a young Western diamondback. The home is located in a vast broken-up gated community in the Cave Creek area. It has broken patches of desert habitat between the homes and Desert landscaping. The home has a mostly block wall for a fence, however, the gate to the backyard is not rattlesnake-proofed and they are interested in having the backyard. Rattlesnake proofed the snake was contained in a bucket and then released within its home range into a desert habitat far from other buildings into a large borough system going under a series of creosote bushes

6:30 PM		 Phoenix 85024 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner just sat down to relax in his backyard when he spotted a rattlesnake curled up in the shade of a nearby tree. I arrived at the home in North Phoenix and found the snake exactly where it had been when it was discovered. Surprisingly, this was the first snake seen on the property in years. The back yard had a view fence that opened up to a large drainage that connected to native desert across the street. There was some DIY mesh on the fence that had been poorly installed. It was full of gaps and holes, rendering it useless. There was a lot of thick landscaping, kids toys, a pool, and normal back yard clutter leaving lots of decent cover. I searched the rest of the yard and did not find any other snakes.

Identifying the snake homeowner called to have it relocated. Upon arrival, the snake was identified to be deceased and removed off property. The surrounding area of where the snake was located is open desert between houses within the neighborhood where these snakes could take a refuge.

When I arrived, the snake was on the move, headed straight for the hose hideaway box. It managed to escape under the box, so I carefully moved the box, secured the snake, and picked an appropriate habitat nearby to release it to. A deep rodent burrow under a mesquite became its new home.

The yard is enclosed with standard view fencing, it has a swimming pool, rodent activity, and copious ground cover vegetation especially by the back porch. The view fencing has been modified by the homeowner with chicken wire and approximately 1 foot of fine wire mesh in an attempt to prevent snakes from getting into the yard. The homeowner is very interested in a quote for fencing.

She was having someone come work on the fountain the following day and didn’t want the snake to be harmed. The fountain was in the front and the home had open desert all around. Released directly into cover via a packrat nest that sat on the edge of a wash.

The landscaper told he was going to kill it and that he had already killed 7 in the past year. She called us hoping we would do it for free so the snake could live. The house backs up to the McDowell Mountain Preserve & has a view fence with some really bad snake fencing. Anything that gets in will have no way out.

10:00 PM		 Peoria 85383 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake We were called out to a Peoria home after a grandchild of the homeowner stepped directly over a rattlesnake while entering the home through a back door. Two dogs were also following the child into the home, and it was at first thought that one may have been bitten. Luckily, neither the dog nor the child was bitten. The snake coiled up and waited near the back door for me to arrive. The home was close to a desert preserve, and there was a large area of development close by. A wash ran between the home and the construction site. I searched the large yard, which had a lot of heavily watered fruit trees and other landscaping. There was a view fence with a DIY snake-proofing mesh, which was full of gaps that would not prevent anything from entering. I recommended a fence estimate, but they declined to request it.

12:00 AM		 San Tan Valley 85144 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Received a call regarding a snake in the backyard area. The customer sent a picture and I confirmed it was an atrox. Arrived and met the customer out front who escorted me into the backyard. The backyard was very large ~half an acre facing west. The area of the yard directly off the back porch was gated with a view fence to keep pets (3 Yorkies) close to the house. The fence had a 1/4 mesh lining it all the way around. Directly west of the fence the ground sloped gently and was lined with bigger rocks. Went through the gate to access the rest of the yard and noted a large atrox in ambush to my left. Captured and bucketed using tongs with no issue. Inspected the rest of the yard and no other snakes were found. Most of the yard was barren and void of cover but there were several small fruit trees with drip irrigation. Home is surrounded by habitat on all sides and I suspect the snake likely came from the wash to the west.

9:00 AM		 Phoenix 85085 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Caller reported a rattlesnake at the front door. Upon arrival, the snake was already under a bucket on the driveway. I was able to quickly contain the snake in my bucket and provided room-temperature water. The property is free from excessively overgrown plants. However, they do have numerous plants in the rear yard with a great deal of water, but all in an elevated position. The front door is pretty deeply recessed and was probably just a temporary stop for thermoregulation. No other snakes were removed.

By the time I arrived, the snake had moved into the shade of a large trailer. The warehouse was adjacent to Deer Valley Airport. The only small patch of native habitat nearby was part of the airport and not accessible to me. Nobody that I talked to at the facility had ever seen a snake on the property before. I had to drive down the road a little over a mile before I got to a patch of state trust land where I could release the snake.

He saw then that the dog had been bitten by a rattlesnake. He got the dog to the vet and called. After a long search, I found the snake in some thick saw grass covered pretty well and hard to see. The home had a view fence and had some desert behind it. A lot of the desert behind their home has become 2000 new homes. They still have quite a bit of desert on the other side of their home just outside the community.
