They watched it cruise around there front yard and back to the side yard where the wash was. It then coiled under a bush, which is where I got it. The home had a large wash right beside them. The rattlesnake was very small still and it had made its way on a lip in the skimmer to stay out of the water. This whole community is pretty new with a lot of desert that had been tore up for homes and still more being done. The home is really close to Tom’s thumb and a lot of good desert habitat. The home has a partial view fence and two gates. The yard itself downstairs have much vegetation it’s all very young.

His wife was home watching the snake while in route and it moved out of the garage along the fence in the front yard. She had the garage open so it could get out. I caught the snake moving up against there house. The garage has some gaps but they weren’t very big I think it snuck in while the garage was open. They have our fencing and everything looks good in the rest of there yard. They are surrounded by good desert habitat and have a little drainage area right in front of their home. While checking the yard I found a younger rattlesnake shed in the front yard.

There was a rodent hole under the rock, so I started flooding it with water. About ten minutes later, the rattlesnake began to come out and I grabbed it. There is desert landscaping throughout the community. The front yard had a lot of vegetation, but the backyard didn’t have much. The property had a block fence and two gates.

The backyard did not offer much suitable habitat, and the snake likely entered through a gap beneath the side gate and was unable to find its way back out. I released the Western Diamondback into a small cave in the wall of a tall wash in the nearby desert, away from homes, where it will be able to reorient itself, stay cool, and find plenty of cover.

Under the overhang of her home, she has river rocks pushed up against the wall, and he told her there were two large rattlesnakes underneath. When I arrived, I found two gophersnakes instead, and she was fine with keeping them around. Her yard was large but very well maintained, and this shaded courtyard area was the only real shade in the yard. Her home has some desert landscaping around it, but it’s more sporadic between the houses.

He went to cover the hole when he saw a snake’s head coming out and thought there were two snakes. The snake was in a brick, not in the actual island itself, but more in the wall of it. The hole was due to erosion and wasn’t supposed to be there. I put water into the hole for about 30 minutes and the snake finally came out. I don’t think there were ever two snakes. The home has some desert directly behind it and much more throughout the community.

She brought them inside and then saw the large rattlesnake. The snake slithered around as if it were trying to find a way out but couldn’t figure it out. I caught it as it was moving along the side of the fence. The yard had some vegetation in the back that could use a trim. They had a view fence that backed up to a small desert area, and they weren’t far from the preserve.

By the time I arrived, it had moved to the side of the house but was still stretched out, basking in the sun. The house was surrounded by open desert with access points all over the place. It was an easy grab and release nearby into a pack rat nest.

Three weeks ago he caught a rattlesnake out front by his trash cans and placed it in the wash across the street. I compared pictures and this was the same snake. The home had a wash in front of it and a golf course behind it. They had a lot of vegetation in there yard and a lot of good spots to hide. There was also a gophersnake behind the table on the back patio but they kept that. The area has some desert around them but it’s very spotty and not a safe place for the snake to be roaming around with all the traffic and people.

8:00 AM		 Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner had this snake removed two days ago by the fire department, but it came back. The snake was coiled under a bush right in front of the front door. Just before I arrived, she saw a bunny go by the snake and the snake lunged and struck at it. Both the snake and bunny went flying, and when the bunny was running away it was limping. I saw the bunny and it had its leg lifted. We aren’t positive it was envenomated, but it seems likely. This was a large male Western Diamondback. Next to where the snake was, there was a large cactus with a huge packrat nest in it and several other holes. She also had water dishes out for the bunnies right there. The home had a large amount of desert directly across the street.
