Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner saw the rattlesnake just outside his garage door. When I arrived I could tell by how it was sitting that it was dead. It had guts coming out of its cloaca. It must have been hit by a car. The road was busy with construction workers from all the new homes being built nearby. The home has a view fence and has a lot of great habitat around. They are right by the preserve.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The church was having a stack of doors moved out of their back storage area and one of the workers noticed a small baby Rattlesnake curled up outside of them, the worker used a nearby shovel to scoop it into an empty dry paint bucket. The church is on a large property adjacent to a great natural habitat on the back side where the storage area and snake was found. I took some time to look around their storage areas and peak into their storage sheds for any further snakes. No other snakes were found, and the baby rattlesnake was driven shortly up the road to the next safest natural habitat away from buildings.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Staff called the hotline with a report of a western diamondback traveling from the pool area along a building. I arrived at the appropriate building and the staff observers immediately pointed out the snake. It was in a semi defensive posture and clearly agitated. The snake was removed without incident. A courtesy walk through of the area resulted in no additional snakes removed, however, there was a highly decomposed section of vertebrae and skin from what appeared to be a colubrid.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was in the garage and she spotted both the snakes. She then noticed they were locked up mating. They saw her and went further into the garage. The male was pulling the female around. I was able to scoop both the snakes up and keep them locked up. The garage had a lot of things in it and I noticed rodent activity. There were gaps in the garage door when it was shut. There was a lot of desert just down the road from her. The snakes were still locked up when I relocated them.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake This western diamondback had been visiting this McDowell Mountain Ranch home on and off for the past week. The house sat on the end of the street with a wide open ravine right next to it. The homeowner knew that meant he might have frequent visitors.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Received a call about a rattlesnake on the back porch. Arrived at home and the customer escorted me to the backyard area. The customer pointed out through a window where the snake was and I observed an adult atrox in a defensive posture rattling. Snake was on top of a small flight of steps that led to a door inside the home. Snake was very defensive and did not stop rattling for the duration of my time with it. Snake struck tongs as I captured it and struck out twice when I had it bucketed. Performed an inspection of the back yard. The yard was very large with topography. Home sat at the bottom of a granite mountain. Pointed out to the customer several areas of concern for overgrown vegetation that was irrigated near the pool area and provided education on snake behavior and encouraged the customer to keep plants trimmed or eliminate them. Walked around the fence line, and I noticed new holes. There is an area where the fencing stops as the wall intersects with a giant boulder on the east end of the yard. Fencing material just kind of folded back into the open desert where a snake could easily enter. I offered the customer a free fencing quote and they obliged. The customer shared concerns they had about their small dog and I stressed the importance of prevention.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was trimming up some plants in her backyard when she heard a rustling and looked down and saw the rattlesnake just slithering by. She kept her eye on it and it just stayed in the same area while I drove there. I grabbed the snake and looked around. She did have some heavy vegetation, but she was also trimming up her plants as we spoke. I did not see any other snakes. She has a view fence in the back, which is higher off the ground, and one gate. She has a drainage that runs by her house that leads to little sections of desert, but not much desert is left in this area.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Caller reported a rattlesnake near the front entryway. The snake made its way to a bush in the front yard, and then the homeowner lost track of the snake’s location. I was unable to locate the snake initially, however, I was eventually able to locate the snake in a large bougainvillea bush amongst the leaf litter. I advised the client to seal the drainage block behind the Bougainvillea bush, as well as the hole under their block view fence wall in the rear of the yard.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Received a call regarding a rattlesnake in a driveway. Arrived at the customer’s home and was greeted outside by them. The customer pointed out where he first noticed the snake in the large driveway and that he tracked it slowly moving south to some landscaping as he waited for me to arrive. I observed a young g juvenile atrox in ambush underneath a small creosote. Utilized oversized tweezers to capture with no issue. The snake had three segments in its rattle. Performed an inspection of both front and backyard, which were huge and no other snakes were found. Both yards were largely neat and tidy. I provided education on snake behavior and pointed out some areas a snake might seek refuge in the summer months. Customer stated that the builder installed 1/4” mesh around the view fence but not around gate entrances on either side of the yard. Home and development are new and surrounded by habitat on all sides. I suspect the snake was likely just moving through the property before it was found by the customer and the dog.

Scottsdale 85255 Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowner called because they had a snake in their backyard eating quail eggs. Before calling us, they shot the snake with a pellet gun only injuring it and it disappeared into to some landscaping rocks. I flooded the rocks with water and we found the snake on the other side of the wall. It had found a way under the wall through the rocks. The snake was observed for a couple of days and after recovering it was released into deep cover.

The client requests a quote for fencing to protect the rear yard and possibly the trash receptacle storage area.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake This was at a preschool. One of the kids spotted the rattlesnake on the playground by the toy box. The employees watched the snake from inside but lost sight of it. The snake was not on the playground when I arrived but I checked the desert around the playground and found a male and female western diamondback coiled up together under a bush. The preschool had a view fence that opened up to some desert. There wasn’t much desert around this busy shopping center but enough for two rattlesnakes. There was a bit more desert across the road.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The caller in this instance was a property manager for a short-term rental property. The guests staying in the home saw a rattlesnake coiled behind a large shed. The children observed the snake then traveling along the inside of the perimeter wall. Unfortunately, the observers lost sight of the snake after briefly leaving the area. After a brief inspection, I determined the snake had likely made its way under the shed. After attempting a flood out for a significant period of time in each hole with no emergence, I decided to tap along the base of the shed and I was able to hear the snake rattle. After much more water, I was able to coax the snake into emerging from one of the drain holes in the shed base. The snake was recovered without incident and no other snakes were removed.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner called about a rattlesnake on the move in her front yard. I found the snake half in a bush trying to get away. The front of the house is completely exposed to the desert with lots of open space surrounding it. The snake was relocated to the nearby preserve in a packrat nest. Twenty five minutes later the homeowner called that there was a second snake on her front porch. I went right back and found a very defensive snake stretched out at the front door. The second snake looked like a gravid female and was placed in the same packrat nest as the first.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Security at an apartment complex called about a small rattlesnake spotted by one of the tenants. When I arrived the young diamondback was curled up in the middle of the parking lot. There was some good habitat just across the street no less than a year ago but that land is now flattened and being developed, which likely displaced the snake and led to this encounter.

Scottsdale 85255 Nightsnake The caller reported a small snake on the patio that her dog was barking at for some time. When I arrived the snake was under a plastic storage bin. The snakes mouth was agape and it was visibly not well. I placed the snake in shade and gave it cool water. I advised the client to remove slate rock pile on the side of the home and roofing tiles on the opposite side as well. The snake has not recovered but was released in hopes of pulling through.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner called after seeing a rattlesnake on the side of his home headed towards the back yard. I arrived and took a quick look around the back yard, which was small, clean and completely empty. There was almost no landscaping and very few structures to hide under. Around the opposite side of the home from where the snake was last seen, there was a small stack roof tiles left over from a recent project. The snake was found hiding under one of these tiles, which was the only shade available in the immediate area. The property was in the middle of a development, but situated in between two natural drainages, both of which led out to more native habitat.

He walked to the front door to notify the homeowners and there was another coiled by the front door. The snake by the door went under a bush near by and I grabbed it. Scottsdale 85254 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner got home from the gym and pulled into the garage. She got out, put something on a shelf, and heard a rattle. The snake was tucked away under the shelves. The garage door had gaps when shut. This location is odd, but I do get snakes in this area from time to time. A large canal separates a densely packed neighborhood from the wide-open desert. The canal is large, so the snake had to have swam across it.

Scottsdale 85254 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake This community had eyes on this snake for a while as it moved from the backyard of one home across a couple of driveways before coiling up in a bush in the front yard of another home. When I arrived there was a small crowd keeping an eye on the snake. The large male atrox was extremely calm and did not resist. Given where this home was, my only conclusion was that he swam across the canal to get to this neighborhood so I gave him a ride back.
