Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner was in his back yard when he saw two rattlesnakes coiled up by his ac unit. One went in a large hole under the unit and the other started to slither out of his yard. I got the one that was on the move. I watered out under the unit but this was a big area and it wouldn’t all flood up. The snake never came out but he’s going to keep an eye out. The home has a drainage on the side of it and isn’t to far from the preserve. |

9:30 PM |
Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Received a call about a rattlesnake on the side of a home. I arrived at the property and was told to approach where a flashlight beam was. Customers inside home shining light outside the window where they noticed the snake. Approached area and noted no snake. Customer spoke through the window and stated that they did not see the snake leave but that it did dip out of eyesight. Noted two drainage pipes about 4” in diameter that both led to different areas of the property. Followed first one that led me to behind a wall that sheltered ac unit. Snake nowhere to be found. Followed wall line around to side of the property to an opening to the golf course. Several overgrown bougainvilleas but no snake found. Followed the 2nd drainage pipe which led to back yard. Inspected entire area and no snakes immediately found. While inspecting yard I initially noticed a concrete fountain that was placed against stucco wall of the house in the dog run area of the yard. There was maybe an inch and a half space between the back of the fountain and the stucco. At the bottom I noticed there was a hole but wasn’t certain it was deep enough for a snake to be. After inspecting the entire property I asked homeowners if I could use their hose to flood the hole in a last attempt. After a couple of minutes of flooding I noticed the head of an atrox peak out from behind the fountain. Adult atrox very slowly and cautiously came out. Snake was noted to take a big drink of water before I captured it using tongs without incident. Provided homeowners education on snake behavior and pointed out several areas of concern in their backyard. |

Scottsdale | 85255 | None | The homeowner saw a rattlesnake in her backyard cruising by yesterday afternoon. She just got a puppy and was concerned it hadn’t left. Her yard wasn’t very big and the only good spot that was hidden was under three large planter boxes, right where she saw the snake yesterday. I watered out under these planters for a long time and nothing came out. Hard to say if there was a spot under there the snake could be without getting hit by water. She is going to keep an eye out. The home had a block fence and one gate. |

Scottsdale | 85255 | None | The homeowner said she had a rattlesnake in her backyard a week ago, and I came out then but couldn’t find it. She has three large planters in the back yard which I thought it could be under. I put water under them but nothing. Today she saw the snake by the planters again, this time she took a video and it was a gophersnake. It went back under the planter and I tried watering it out but it would not come out. She’s ok with it now since it’s harmless. |

Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Resident first saw a coiled western diamondback, rattlesnake, sitting in a wet patch of ground near a garage. After discussion, I learned that this is used for long-term storage by the property owner. Suspected to be a winter den. I went out to investigate and found snake tracks and shed skin from a young western diamondback that matched the description and photographs from the resident. Search the garage, found no additional snakes, found the snake coiled in filtered light at the base of a bush near the water source. Captured and advised that the property owner be contacted to allow entry to the closed garage to search for additional snakes. |

Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner spotted this large western diamondback slithering on the fence line. The snake could have crawled over but the drop was about 6 feet. After walking the property the likely entrance was a drain block in the concrete fence or a gap in the gate. The snake decided to camp out in a Bougainvillea bush and held on tight. I had to spray him with a hose and ended up catching him at the very top of the bush. He was relocated close by in a large pack rat nest. |

Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The family was out in the back yard by the pool when they saw a large western diamondback slither across the pool deck. While I was driving there it worked its way under there not so great snake fencing and into the little desert area behind there home and a golf course wasn’t far from that. They saw it go in a bush with a pack rat nest. While walking back there I saw a rattlesnake in another bush so grabbed it. It very well could have been the one they saw but hard to say it also could have been a different one. Both were big males and the tail markings looked similar. While searching the back yard I spotted some shed skins by the pool equipment and there was a large diamondback under the pool heater which I got. The yard has some heavy vegetation with a view fence that backs up to a desert golf course. I’ve got a rattlesnake from this same water heater before. |

Scottsdale | 85255 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Received a call about snake on back porch of a short-term rental property. Customer text me photo and I confirmed it was an atrox in ambush underneath stucco lip of outside wall. When I arrived to property customer met me outside and escorted me through the home. Customer stated their small dog was the one who initially noticed the snake. Observed snake in same position as photo just outside the sliding glass door. Used hook to pull snake from underneath the lip of stucco wall and then utilized tongs to capture snake and bucket with no issue. Snake began rattling once in bucket. Performed inspection of back yard. Property had desert wash than ran south and east of the property. Property had snake fencing installed not by RS. Noted a gate on the north end of yard that had hole in snake mesh on the corner where hinge was. Mesh went up approximately 24” on gate. I suspect this is where the snake entered. Since this was a short-term rental I mentioned to the customer to have landlord reach out to RS for fencing quote. Yard was neat and tidy with not many places for snake to seek refuge. No other snakes found. Customer asked what they should do when the dog needs to use the restroom. I encouraged customer to visually inspect yard before letting dog out and to be with her while she uses the bathroom. |
