The backyard did not offer much suitable habitat, and the snake likely entered through a gap beneath the side gate and was unable to find its way back out. I released the Western Diamondback into a small cave in the wall of a tall wash in the nearby desert, away from homes, where it will be able to reorient itself, stay cool, and find plenty of cover.

Under the overhang of her home, she has river rocks pushed up against the wall, and he told her there were two large rattlesnakes underneath. When I arrived, I found two gophersnakes instead, and she was fine with keeping them around. Her yard was large but very well maintained, and this shaded courtyard area was the only real shade in the yard. Her home has some desert landscaping around it, but it’s more sporadic between the houses.

11:00 AM		 Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners’ pest company first saw the snake and watched it slither into a hole on the back side of his grill island. He went to cover the hole when he saw a snake’s head coming out and thought there were two snakes. The snake was in a brick, not in the actual island itself, but more in the wall of it. The hole was due to erosion and wasn’t supposed to be there. I put water into the hole for about 30 minutes and the snake finally came out. I don’t think there were ever two snakes. The home has some desert directly behind it and much more throughout the community.

She brought them inside and then saw the large rattlesnake. The snake slithered around as if it were trying to find a way out but couldn’t figure it out. I caught it as it was moving along the side of the fence. The yard had some vegetation in the back that could use a trim. They had a view fence that backed up to a small desert area, and they weren’t far from the preserve.

7:00 PM		 Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was about to take their dog out when they spotted this western diamondback stretched out on the back patio. By the time I arrived, it had moved to the side of the house but was still stretched out, basking in the sun. The house was surrounded by open desert with access points all over the place. It was an easy grab and release nearby into a pack rat nest.

She missed the initial strike but saw the lizard die from the envenomation and then watched the snake eat it. The rattlesnake then coiled in a corner to digest. The courtyard had a small pond, and her yard contained dense vegetation. Her home was also very close to open desert just down the road.

The front yard was inspected to ensure no additional snakes were present, as there is a running fountain and dense, low-lying vegetation that likely attracted the snake.

They were unable to identify it or take a picture, but reported that it was black, yellow, and red. It turned out to be a long-nosed snake that was hanging out inside the garage. There were gaps in the corners where the garage door closed, which was the likely entry point. The snake was hand-captured and released nearby on the rocky bank of a wash.

I arrived and captured a large adult western diamondback that was resting in the shady corner of the front entryway. I informed the customer that the bench in this area provides additional cover and is very attractive to snakes at this time of year.

Today, they were sitting on the couch and saw a ground snake slither out from underneath it. They put a bucket over the snake so it wouldn’t escape again. The home and neighboring properties are typical for the area, with lantanas and grass throughout—lots of vegetation and well-watered yards all around.

9:30 AM		 Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner saw the snake half way under a table on his back patio. He was able to put it in a bucket. Three weeks ago he caught a rattlesnake out front by his trash cans and placed it in the wash across the street. I compared pictures and this was the same snake. The home had a wash in front of it and a golf course behind it. They had a lot of vegetation in there yard and a lot of good spots to hide. There was also a gophersnake behind the table on the back patio but they kept that. The area has some desert around them but it’s very spotty and not a safe place for the snake to be roaming around with all the traffic and people.

8:00 AM		 Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner had this snake removed two days ago by the fire department, but it came back. The snake was coiled under a bush right in front of the front door. Just before I arrived, she saw a bunny go by the snake and the snake lunged and struck at it. Both the snake and bunny went flying, and when the bunny was running away it was limping. I saw the bunny and it had its leg lifted. We aren’t positive it was envenomated, but it seems likely. This was a large male Western Diamondback. Next to where the snake was, there was a large cactus with a huge packrat nest in it and several other holes. She also had water dishes out for the bunnies right there. The home had a large amount of desert directly across the street.

I found it in the same position and the fiesty snake took a moment to secure in my bucket. I was able to relocate the snake to some nearby, heavily vegetated habitat with evidence of rodents everywhere.

Inspected the backyard and could not find. Flushed two spots under the foundation for 10 min each with no luck. Homeowner just moved in 1 month ago and previous rattlesnake fencing was not bolted down and had many gaps. View fencing. He is interested in getting better fencing.

It’s a very nice fall day out after a bunch of rain. The home has desert throughout the community and also a lot of desert just up the road. His yard had a few heavy lantanas and led to a very lush courtyard with a fountain.

9:30 PM		 Scottsdale 85255 Nightsnake Customer called with snake in-house. They were not sure if it was a rattlesnake or not. They were able to throw a pot over it. Upon arrival I lifted the pot and found a small desert night snake which I was able to relocate into nearby rocky mountain habitat.

When I arrived, I found the snake curled up around the water heater. Snake likely entered the garage when the door was open at some point, no other obvious points of entry were found. Sure enough, he spotted one under his pool pump, just coiled up. It was a really cold rainy day. Near the pool pump was a grill island which is the only spot near that I could image the snake hibernating in. The home has a view fence and has quite a bit of desert around it.

I got the snake out of that box and near it was two ac units. The snake may have been under the AC unit pad. There was a little entry point. They were excited to hear that our service does not kill the snake but instead finds a more suitable environment away from people to for it to live. Relocated into a desert wash with lots of rodent activity.

There was a dying centipede near the neonate so I’m not sure if the little one envenomated it. I was able to get the little one out from under the pot. There was also a large shedded king snake skin under there. She said she saw the king a few months before she let it stay. This was large property with a lot of vegetation but it was all very clean. Next to the big pot, about 7 feet away, was a grill island that I believe the snake was staying under for winter. She is scheduled to get our fencing done already in the spring. There is some desert just behind her back wall.

When I arrived, the western diamondback had moved behind a large flower pot and was rattling. This was a huge yard and it was one of those neighborhoods in Scottsdale, where all the homes are equally spaced with desert all around them. Did a sweep of the yard and did not find any other snakes. The homeowner is curious about the fencing because the snake could easily enter through both gates on both sides of the house. Found a nice large desert area in between two neighborhoods about a mile south and placed the snake into a large packrat nest underneath a shady tree where the snake will be able to continue living its life.

Upon arrival, the snake had started to move away from the garage door and towards the desert, but I got there just in time to snag it before it could disappear. Home is right at the base of a large mountain covered in boulders and the front yard area looks like it could have many more rattlesnakes around, so I told her just to be careful especially this time of year as they are all emerging from the winter. She was completely understanding about where she lives. Snake was released into a large Pack rat nest in a nearby patch of desert away from homes.
