Scottsdale 85255 Sonoran Gophersnake, Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowner had a plumber out to fix an outdoor faucet. Under the overhang of her home, she has river rocks pushed up against the wall, and he told her there were two large rattlesnakes underneath. When I arrived, I found two gophersnakes instead, and she was fine with keeping them around. Her yard was large but very well maintained, and this shaded courtyard area was the only real shade in the yard. Her home has some desert landscaping around it, but it’s more sporadic between the houses.

Scottsdale 85260 Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowner looked out her back window and saw a snake wrapped around a bird, constricting it. She then lost sight of the snake and called us, believing it was a rattlesnake. It turned out to be a gophersnake, which had climbed into a tall bush just behind her fence. I was able to locate and safely capture it, and it did have a bolus. The property has a significant amount of desert habitat across the street.

7:30 PM
Scottsdale 85266 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner went to grab a package off the front porch and was surprised by a rattlesnake that had decided to use it for shade. The front of the house was wide open with many access points, though the backyard had already been protected with rattlesnake fencing. The snake had just eaten something three times its size and was not very nimble, so it was an easy capture and relocation into a large pack rat nest west of the property.

11:00 AM
Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners’ pest company first saw the snake and watched it slither into a hole on the back side of his grill island. He went to cover the hole when he saw a snake’s head coming out and thought there were two snakes. The snake was in a brick, not in the actual island itself, but more in the wall of it. The hole was due to erosion and wasn’t supposed to be there. I put water into the hole for about 30 minutes and the snake finally came out. I don’t think there were ever two snakes. The home has some desert directly behind it and much more throughout the community.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner had her dogs out back when she noticed them barking at something while keeping their distance. She brought them inside and then saw the large rattlesnake. The snake slithered around as if it were trying to find a way out but couldn’t figure it out. I caught it as it was moving along the side of the fence. The yard had some vegetation in the back that could use a trim. They had a view fence that backed up to a small desert area, and they weren’t far from the preserve.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was about to take their dog out when they spotted this western diamondback stretched out on the back patio. By the time I arrived, it had moved to the side of the house but was still stretched out, basking in the sun. The house was surrounded by open desert with access points all over the place. It was an easy grab and release nearby into a pack rat nest.

3:00 PM
Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner saw a rattlesnake and a desert spiny lizard on her front porch. She missed the initial strike but saw the lizard die from the envenomation and then watched the snake eat it. The rattlesnake then coiled in a corner to digest. The courtyard had a small pond, and her yard contained dense vegetation. Her home was also very close to open desert just down the road.

Scottsdale 85266 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner saw the snake slither under a table in her backyard. I moved the table and found a hole underneath, so I tried to flush the snake out with water, but nothing emerged. I continued searching and eventually found the snake on her back patio, hiding behind some items. The home backs up to a small patch of desert. The remaining desert in this area is scarce and fragmented.

1:00 PM
Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner reported a rattlesnake by the front door. Upon arrival, the snake was found curled up in the front door corner. The front yard was inspected to ensure no additional snakes were present, as there is a running fountain and dense, low-lying vegetation that likely attracted the snake.

6:30 PM
Scottsdale 85255 Longnosed Snake The homeowner walked into the garage and was greeted by a snake. They were unable to identify it or take a picture, but reported that it was black, yellow, and red. It turned out to be a long-nosed snake that was hanging out inside the garage. There were gaps in the corners where the garage door closed, which was the likely entry point. The snake was hand-captured and released nearby on the rocky bank of a wash.

Scottsdale 85266 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner saw her dog face-to-face with this Western Diamondback on the back porch. Fortunately, the snake did not bite the dog, and she was able to get the dog inside. When I arrived, the snake was still on the back porch. There was open-view fencing, drain blocks, and gaps under the double gate, providing multiple access points. The snake was relocated to a pack rat nest.

3:30 PM
Scottsdale 85259 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner had been seeing this snake over the last few days. This was also a gravid female that likely didn’t want to search all over in 117-degree heat for a cool place to stay. The yard had some vegetation, and the large patio provided a lot of shade. The home backed up to a small desert area between the neighboring houses, with a much larger expanse of desert just down the road.

Scottsdale 85255 Groundsnake The homeowner called last night about a snake in the house. Savannah went out and could not find it. Today, they were sitting on the couch and saw a ground snake slither out from underneath it. They put a bucket over the snake so it wouldn’t escape again. The home and neighboring properties are typical for the area, with lantanas and grass throughout—lots of vegetation and well-watered yards all around.

Scottsdale 85259 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was outside with her puppy when she heard a rattling sound. The dog backed away from the noise, and they both went inside. The snake was by the back patio, up against the house. I searched everywhere in her front and back yard but couldn’t find the snake. I then checked a sprinkler box near where she had last seen it and found the snake inside. She had some vegetation in the backyard that could be trimmed, but this was a corner house adjacent to a desert mountainside. The yard had a partial view fence and one gate.

Scottsdale 85260 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was outside with her dogs when she heard them barking at a snake by the back fence. She brought the dogs inside and watched the rattlesnake. It was at the edge of her grass, out in the open, in a very small patch of shade. It was 106 degrees out, and I was very surprised it was where it was. She had a few smaller rosemary plants in the backyard, which were the only shady spots besides her back patio. The home had a desert drainage behind it and some desert beside it that led to a larger desert area.

6:30 PM
Scottsdale 85259 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake A homeowner in Scottsdale called about a western diamondback rattlesnake curled up in the corner of his front porch. The front yard is essentially open desert, with widely scattered homes throughout the neighborhood. He said he had seen the snake for a couple of days in a row; it would leave at night but always return during the day to take advantage of the shaded area where I picked it up. I took the snake across the street and found a nice patch of open desert with a decent-sized wash running through it. The snake was released into a packrat nest underneath a large tree on the side of the wash.

Scottsdale 85266 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner in North Scottsdale called about a western diamondback rattlesnake in his backyard. By the time I got there, it had moved from where he last saw it. I looked around all the easy areas as there were some decent spots to hide, and the yard had some snake fencing but definitely still had small gaps for entry and exit points in the side gate. Began flooding underneath a large shed that was near where he last saw the snake and about 25 minutes later the little guy poked his head out. Snake was released into a packrat nest next to a wash in a nearby patch of desert.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner saw the snake half way under a table on his back patio. He was able to put it in a bucket. Three weeks ago he caught a rattlesnake out front by his trash cans and placed it in the wash across the street. I compared pictures and this was the same snake. The home had a wash in front of it and a golf course behind it. They had a lot of vegetation in there yard and a lot of good spots to hide. There was also a gophersnake behind the table on the back patio but they kept that. The area has some desert around them but it’s very spotty and not a safe place for the snake to be roaming around with all the traffic and people.

9:30 AM
Scottsdale 85259 Kingsnake Called us for a western diamondback rattlesnake and a kingsnake. He had a video of both in the courtyard. The fire department apparently came before we did and caught the rattlesnake, but the guy told them to put it back so I could get it, because the fire department told him they were only going to take it down the street. I searched the area extensively and flooded out the gaps between the paver patio and the wall, and flooded out two kingsnakes, but the rattlesnake was nowhere to be found. It could still be under that patio because the under-cavity is pretty extensive, but since it was harassed by the fire department, it could have left. There was about 20 minutes of him not watching it before I got there.

Scottsdale 85259 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner noticed the snake coiled by the front door in the shade. The snake was in an inclosed courtyard but the door to the courtyard had gaps. It was very cool in there and they had a fountain. There was a big wash across the street that led to even more desert. He didn’t want the back checked so I’m not sure what was going on back there. This was a gravid female.

Scottsdale 85259 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Western diamondback near back porch, taking shade under some plants and found by the homeowners’ dog. They were able to see the interaction and call the curious puppy inside as the snake was rattling. Talked extensively about trimming shrubbery, not leaving bowls of water for birds on the ground, rodent control, fencing options, cleaning up trash on the side of the house, and dog training as ways to make the area a less hospitable habitat.

Scottsdale 85255 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner had this snake removed two days ago by the fire department, but it came back. The snake was coiled under a bush right in front of the front door. Just before I arrived, she saw a bunny go by the snake and the snake lunged and struck at it. Both the snake and bunny went flying, and when the bunny was running away it was limping. I saw the bunny and it had its leg lifted. We aren’t positive it was envenomated, but it seems likely. This was a large male Western Diamondback. Next to where the snake was, there was a large cactus with a huge packrat nest in it and several other holes. She also had water dishes out for the bunnies right there. The home had a large amount of desert directly across the street.

Scottsdale 85259 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Dispatched to a call where the customer stated there was a rattlesnake near their back porch. Arrived to the home and was escorted into the backyard by the customer. I observed a large atrox in ambush on the east side of the home. Snake was partially covered by a jasmine that was drip irrigated. Utilized tongs to capture snake. Snake struck at tongs several times and then rattled for the duration of my time with it. Performed inspection of both yards and found no other snakes. Yard had a few areas that I pointed out that had overgrown vegetation. Customer had 1/4 mesh installed by landscapers. Offered a free fencing quote and they agreed. Customer stated they spend summers in Show Low and had just returned. Customer stated landscapers found another snake the week before and killed it. I believe snake came from desert across the street and through the side fate on the east side.

Scottsdale 85254 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was having landscaping done when they spotted the snake. They then threw it in the street and it went into his neighbors yard. The neighbor had him call us to have it safely removed. There was a lot of lantana yards and lush vegetation around. This side of the canal was all homes. The other side of the canal was a lot of desert so it crossed at some point. This was a good quarter mile from good habitat.
