Tucson 85741 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake A self-storage company called because one of their customers had a snake in the storage unit. I have been here previously to remove a snake for them, only this was in an adjoining unit to the last one. There was a juvenile, apparent female and well-fed, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake hiding beneath an overhang next to the door to the unit. I was able to coax the snake out with a mini snake hook and contain it.

Tucson 85730 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake This customer called RS because she’s been seeing the same snake on a slope of unconsolidated rock landscaping leading down from the swimming pool. Today, a second snake had apparently joined the first, and they were both coiled under an overhanging stone with a burrow behind it, shaded by a small Opuntia species of cactus. Snakes were older-looking male and female Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes. Temps were in the 60s and both snakes were sluggish. I have had multiple snake calls in this neighborhood over my tenure with RS.

According to the homeowner the snake had been lazing there for the last two days and “he won’t leave”.

Tucson 85746 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake This homeowner called regarding a juvenile Western Diamondback Rattlesnake that he found stuck in mesh scraps in his backyard. This isn’t his first time calling us- he’s had several encounters with rattlesnakes on his property. When I arrived, the rattlesnake was already in a bucket, but still stuck in the piece of mesh. Situations like this require the proper training, tools, and patience to safely and successfully free a rattlesnake without causing harm to the snake or the individual trying to free it. I carefully and safely removed the mesh in a manner that kept myself safe and without causing any harm to the snake. Once freed, I found nearby habitat in its native range where I released it into an active packrat nest.

Tucson 85750 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake This customer had had the fire department remove a snake this morning but they thought they’d seen another one and wanted us to check. They had been leaving to walk the dog and witnessed a snake stretched out in the sun and thought they’d seen another disappearing into the a hole at the base of a very old prickly pear. When i arrived i went about watering various burrows and only found a Spiny Lizard. As I was leaving a the homeowner thought she’d seen a black and white tail disappearing into some leaves. Soon i was able to remove a female Western Diamondback Rattlesnake that had coiled under a bush. The property was pretty well groomed and signs of rodent activity scarce. The owners haven’t seen a snake there in 10 years, and though that might mean nothing, the lack of apparent prey activity makes me wonder if a neighbor hadnt recently disturbed these snakes while removing a packrat nest.

Tucson 85641 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake This homeowner was startled by a loud rattling sound when he walked into his garage. He quickly realized it was the distinct sound of a rattlesnake. He looked underneath his shelving unit and found an adult Western Diamondback Rattlesnake coiled in the corner. He called us immediately to come remove it. Once I arrived, I safely got the snake into the bucket and relocated it to a nearby habitat into a rodent burrow. The homeowners told me they left the garage door open for about an hour or so today, but almost always keep it closed. This shows how quickly a rattlesnake can find a comfy spot in your garage if the door is left open in a relatively short period of time- and why it’s so important to keep it closed.
