Phoenix | 85024 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Western diamondback in yard. Snake bit families dog and dog was taken to vet. Snake managed to get into backyard from around neighbors house and into one of two side entrances, as block wall surrounding house provided no entrances around back of house where habitat was. Snake likely wandered into back yard after managing to wander into the neighborhood and needed to find shade. Back yard had plenty of shade and cool places like pool equipment for snake to seek shelter. No evidence of rodent activity, so likely a coincidence that snake was there in my opinion. Good candidate for fencing. |

Phoenix | 85024 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Customer called about a small rattlesnake found in garage. Sent picture and confirmed atrox. Arrived at customers home and was shown to the garage. Noticed a yearling atrox with 3 buttons in ambush against hot water heater. Atrox was near a door that lead to backyard. Utilized giant tweezers to capture snake and bucket without incident. Performed inspection of garage and found no other snakes. Performed quick inspection of the backyard. Cinderblock wall all around with one gate being the point of entry. Customer stated there had been a lot of construction in the area. House was in the end of a cul-de-sac and there was a small parcel of desert a block north of the home where I suspect the snake may have come from. Behind the property is a park to the south. I suspect the snake entered through the backyard through the gate and into the garage through the back door. I did notice loose garage door seal as well so snake may have come through there. Since the are is less than 15 minutes from me I took snake home as to bring it back to the area in the morning to have more light to find suitable hibernaculum in the mountain area just east of customer’s home. |
