The snake went under a wooden box not far from where she first saw it and that’s where I caught it. The yard had a lot of heavy vegetation and it was very close to the desert preserve.

She heard what she thought was a rattlesnake and got the dogs inside. The snake was somewhat up in a tree, more at the base but elevated at that time. It then moved under a bush. It ended up being a gopher snake. The home didn’t have much in the yard and no cover. They had a block fence with a drainage along the side that was close to the preserve.

3:00 PM		 Phoenix 85022 Sonoran Gophersnake Caller reported a rattlesnake (identified by a family member) coiled by the front door. Upon arrival, I quickly identified the snake as a Sonoran Gophersnake. The snake was taking advantage of the shade and standing water in the potted plant overflow basin. The snake was removed without incident and no other snakes were recovered. The snake is missing a small portion of its tail and it has scarred over.
