10:00 AM		 Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The caller spotted a rattlesnake coiled under a bush she was about to trim. When I arrived the snake was still sitting in ambush looking particularly regal. The snake was quickly removed without incident. During my inspection, I located multiple sheddings at different locations on the property and they appeared to be from separate individuals. I made several recommendations to the homeowners to reduce the number of attractive features of their yards.

7:00 PM		 Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners called after the neighbors saw a rattlesnake cross the road into their front yard, they saw the snake bedded down and curled up in the lantana bushes/ground cover near their front door. When I arrived they were sitting nearby keeping watch of the snake, but it had just started to move away a few feet from where they had last eyes on it, but I immediately noticed it and bucketed the snake. The home is the first corner property adjacent to a broken-up desert habitat within well-developed gated communities. They are 3x repeat removal customers and have snake fencing for the backyard.

She lost sight of it but I found it coiled under the AC unit. The yard didn’t have much for cover but was right next to a drainage area with some big boulders and lots of desert vegetation.

10:00 AM		 Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake A large western diamondback was seen in a raised flower bed with lots of shade and moisture. When I arrived, the snake had moved further down behind some very dense foliage. I was able to locate a very sizable, male, Western Diamondback. I performed a property inspection and found a fairly new shedding from another smaller Atrox. The property is massive and there is an incredible abundance of prey items, shelter and water. This property will likely be no stranger to us and will most likely have calls in the future.

6:30 PM		 Cave Creek 85262 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Rattlesnake in front yard. Homeowners are currently doing construction of their house and adding a pool. Beccause they are going to tear down the wall for the pool addition, they do not need snake fencing in that area yet but they do have an enclosed garbage can area with side gate, another enclosed area on the opposite side of the house and a third front entry courtyard area in the meantime. They would like a recommendation for a new, large front gate as well but I told her I do not know if we have a connection like that. Solid walls all around home so fencing would just be flood holes and gates. Wife is from Australia and petrified of rattlesnakes and coyotes. They have a boxer dog and she would not be reassured that this dog was too big for a coyote to mess with.

10:00 PM		 Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Dispatched a call about a baby rattlesnake in the side yard. Arrived at home and was greeted by the homeowner who escorted me to the backyard. The customer stated they initially noticed a snake on the back patio on the north end of the home and it slowly made its way to the side yard on the west. Snake eventually settled underneath a metal ramp that was on the ground. Lifted the ramp and noticed a small (< 1 year) atrox in ambush. Utilized giant tweezers to capture and secure the snake with no issue. Performed inspection for the rest of the yard and no snakes were found. *** Customer stated that they had a fencing quote from RS before but did not move forward with it. The customer would like to have fencing installed now. ***

4:30 PM		 Cave Creek 85331 Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowners called stating that there was a snake in the bedroom that they contained under a small waste basket but were unsure of what kind of snake it was. They said that the snake was hissing and striking out at them so they were too afraid to lift the bucket to remove the snake on their own. When I arrived the snake was as described under a wastebasket. I slowly lifted the waste basket and was able to quickly identify that it was a Sonoran gopher snake which I easily captured and placed into a bag for relocation. The home is located in a semi-rural Cave Creek community surrounded by lots and lots of natural desert habitat and not far from a hiking area. The homeowner stated that they had once seen a snake come from the closet that contained the air heating and handling unit which goes up into the attic. It is open to the attic and there was lots of light coming in. I encourage them to either seal the closet that is in or to have someone go up into the attic and spray foam or seal any possible holes into the house and to look for other holes into the house as the homeowners were certain that they never left any doors open to the outside as they have a cat that is indoor only. The homeowners expressed interest in the snake fencing, but I was unable to go out to the backyard and check out what they were already working with. Since the snake was captured inside the home, a deeper conversation would need to be had to understand their wishes around that. Otherwise, I explained that gopher snakes are very good climbers while rattlesnakes are not. I then relocated the snake to the nearby slate trailhead. Not far up the street underneath a large boulder.

7:30 AM		 Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners called us after seeing a rattlesnake in their chicken coop. This home was in a rural area just outside of Cave Creek and surrounded by native desert. The snake was found resting in a shady area inside of the coop. There were no chickens present at the time. The property was large, with a lot of places to hide including sheds, other structures, animal enclosures, and various gardens and landscaping. I searched as much as possible and was surprised to not find any additional snakes.

She lives on a desert mountainside and has a large yard. Her fenced back yard is elevated, and the only entry is the gate. She does feed the birds and has a bird bath.

11:30 AM		 Cave Creek 85331 Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowner was putting the trash cans from the backyard out by the road when she saw a snake under one. She thought it was a rattlesnake. It was a gophersnake and she was relieved. There wasn't much desert around here but small pockets throughout the homes.

12:30 PM		 Cave Creek 85331 Sonoran Gophersnake The homeowner spotted what she believed to be a rattlesnake on the side of their home near where they keep their trash cans. When I arrived, I had to move a few miscellaneous items that had been stacked up awaiting trash day. I found a small gophersnake that quickly retreated into a gap in the blocks that made up the side wall and the gate. It only took a little bit of water from the hose to gently coax the snake back out. I got it in the bucket and searched the yard for others but found none. The home was located in a typical Cave Creek neighborhood with lots of native drainages running throughout. The back yard had a view fence that opened to one of these drainages, but the footer was several feet high. While this snake may have entered up and over it, it would be a challenge for a small to medium-sized rattlesnake. There were large gaps around the gate and a few in the block that any snake could enter or exit with ease. The homeowner asked that I remove the gopher snake for fear that her dog would harm it.

10:30 AM		 Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake A family housesitting at a rural Cave Creek home called after seeing a rattlesnake on the property. The snake had moved into a shady area near the back porch by the time I arrived. This yard had landscaping that very closely matched the native desert surrounding the home. It was surrounded by an adobe wall but had several iron view gates that opened up to the large wash behind the property, making a seamless integration between the two. While searching for additional snakes, I found an Atrox shed under an artificial rock covering the pool equipment, and there were several other perfect caves in and among the large rocks surrounding the pool. Although I did not find any other snakes, I explained that there would almost certainly be more, as nothing was preventing them from entering, and there was no reason for them to exit once there.

7:30 PM		 Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner had seen the black and white bands entering some vines next to his back door. When I arrived, the snake was nowhere to be seen. After pulling the vines back and using a flashlight I found him about 4’ up in the vines just hanging out. It took awhile to make the capture but I was successful. The snake was given water and released into a packrat nest that sat on the edge of a wash.

3:00 PM		 Cave Creek 85262 Kingsnake The homeowner noticed the kingsnake on his back patio. It then slithered into a bougainvillea. When I arrived the snake was not visible. It went into the base of the plant and it was very dense and hard to see in. I used the hose and after a while the snake came out for a second but not enough of its body to grab. It then went back into hiding. I continued to water until it came all the way out but it slithered up the bougainvillea which was really big and I couldn’t reach it. I moved to the other side to see better, and it disappeared. There was another bougainvillea next to it that went to the ground on the other side of the fence. I think it escaped to that one and got to the ground and out into the desert behind the home. The home also backed up to a golf course.

The home was on the edge of a development, but far from any open, native habitat. There were a lot of small drainages running throughout the area. It was not determined how the snake ended up in the garage, but it was small and could have entered through a gap in the weather stripping, if not through the open garage door while it was open for a short time.

The young Western Diamondback was in front of the garage and seemed to be trying to enter the garage, which is where it may have been hiding out to avoid the heat of the day. Home is pretty far into the neighborhood so the snake was likely stuck in the neighborhood and wandering around looking for any usable cover.

This is the second rattlesnake they have had relocated from their backyard this year. They previously used Arizona rattlesnake services, which referred them to us. This time when I arrived the snake was as described curled up in the backyard and was a young Western diamondback. The home is located in a vast broken-up gated community in the Cave Creek area. It has broken patches of desert habitat between the homes and Desert landscaping. The home has a mostly block wall for a fence, however, the gate to the backyard is not rattlesnake-proofed and they are interested in having the backyard. Rattlesnake proofed the snake was contained in a bucket and then released within its home range into a desert habitat far from other buildings into a large borough system going under a series of creosote bushes

She was having someone come work on the fountain the following day and didn’t want the snake to be harmed. The fountain was in the front and the home had open desert all around. Released directly into cover via a packrat nest that sat on the edge of a wash.

Some are snake-trained and some aren’t but she was able to get everyone inside safely. The snake then moved under some nearby cover from a bench and that’s where I grabbed it. The yard is large but not a lot of hiding spots. She did say she thought she heard a rattle yesterday by the pool equipment. The home is really close to a lot of desert.

8:00 PM		 Casa Grande 85122 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The snake bit the homeowners dog out in the backyard. He said he couldn’t grab his dog because the snake was outside. I told him that the snake wouldn’t attack him to just grab his dog and take it to the vet. He did not do this, he along with five other people watched their dog dying on their back patio for thirty minutes while I drove there. The dog was in bad shape when I got there and outside all alone. They took the dog to the vet after I caught the snake.

From the video they took it appeared to be a bigger one than the one I got for them today. I looked around and didn’t find anything else. They had chickens running around the back yard with food spread all over the ground. They also had a garden with melons everywhere. They had a lot of vegetation around. They were also surrounded by wide open desert.

The snake may have ingested some of that because it was not doing too great. I rinsed the snake off when I relocated it, but it was barely moving. I’m not sure it’s going to make it. The homeowner had a big gaps under her front door like half inch gap. Her complex had some fields and desert across the street.

When I arrived I found the Mojave Rattlesnake stretched out under the door along the home. Yard was fairly large but lacked good hiding places for snakes. Had multiple gates with gaps which is likely where the snake entered. Snake released into a rodent hole at the base of a creosote bush within estimated home range.

When I arrived, I found a Mojave rattlesnake between the front door and the garage, curled up in a corner. The snake was likely passing through the area and settling in for the night, as this is a very active time of year for snakes just after sunset. I took the snake back into the desert behind the neighborhood and released it into deep cover in a rodent burrow at the base of a mound of bushes.

This huge western diamondback was located to a heavily vegetated wash with many rodent holes in the nearby desert habitat.
