Phoenix | 85083 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner called and said he had a snake in the backyard. The snake was coiled in a raised flower bed that had a mesh cloth over it and a drip system. The bed was about a foot and a half off the ground. He also had another garden bed nearby and dense rosemary bushes. The home had some desert around it and throughout the other homes. The community was surrounded by more desert hillsides. |

Phoenix | 85083 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Coachwhip | Was dispatched for a call about two possible snakes in a backyard. Arrived and met the customer, who escorted me into the backyard. The customer stated she noticed her dog barking and then saw two snakes, both of which scurried away once the dog began barking. Noted a neonate atrox behind a plastic flowerpot in the side yard on the west side of the property. Used forceps to capture it and placed it in a bucket. The snake was very defensive and struck the forceps several times. Upon inspection, it appeared the atrox had something stuck on the underside of its chin. Looking closer, the atrox’s jaw seemed dislocated, as it wouldn’t close entirely. The more I examined the head of the atrox, the more it seemed to have suffered some physical trauma. Began searching the rest of the side yard. As I moved a large plastic storage container away from the wall, I noted a coachwhip quickly dart back under the container. I was able to use tongs to capture the coachwhip and contain it in a second bucket. Inspected the rest of the yard, and no additional snakes were found. The customer is interested in dog training and a fence quote. The backyard is largely neat, with minimal places for a snake to seek refuge for long periods; however, the side yard where the snakes were found is largely shaded. There are some drainage holes on the western wall that lead to the wash running next to her house. The customer has a view fence, but it seems to be elevated high enough on a wall. I suspect both snakes entered through a small hole between the brick wall and the house, which is the closest access point from the wash. I’m certain the dog interrupted the coachwhip while it was attempting to eat the atrox. |

She threw the cover down and went inside and did not know what kind of snake it was. The snake was still right by the cover when I arrived, it was a baby western diamondback rattlesnake. The home has a lot of desert just right across the street. The yard is very clean with not a lot of places to hide they have an all-blocked fence with two gates. |

Phoenix | 85083 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner was out in the yard with her dog when she noticed it was getting rattled at by a rattlesnake by her shed. The dog did not get close and after getting them inside she called us. The snake was up against the shed behind some ladders when I arrived. I was able to easily capture the snake. The home was on an acre and a half but the majority of the property was clean and clear of debris. She did have a shipping container and a pile of big rocks that could be a good spot for a snake. Along with some gaps under the shed where I captured the snake. Behind the house was a horse property and that was surrounded by the desert preserve. |

8:30 PM |
Phoenix | 85083 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner called about a Western Diamondback that was near her front door. When I arrived the snake was still there, curled up next to some deflated Christmas blow-up decorations. The area backs right up to the Deem Hills preserve and the home has a wash that runs right behind it that comes directly from the nearby desert hill so the snake likely traveled through there and ended up at her front door. Some bushes that were overgrown in the front yard that I recommended she trim down, but ultimately the front porch faces North so it will always be an attractive spot for any animal looking for a shady day time spot.
