Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The gentleman was doing his rounds checking the bathrooms when the baby rattlesnake rattled at him. It was in the entryway on the way to the restrooms. This was at a public park that had soccer fields and other fields. There once was desert across the street but it was all flattened with tractors in it ready to be built up. The building the snake was in had a storage area with a garage type door which is where I think the snake had been hibernating. The little snake had a bolus also.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner and her company from out of town were enjoying a nice pool day when a rattlesnake slithered through her view fence into the back yard. She said it slithered around trying to get out for a bit but then settled in the shade. She had some mesh on the view fence but some areas weren’t down all the way. Her yard had very little vegetation and not a lot of shade. The spot the snake coiled up under was not going to work for long. The home backs up to a golf course and a desert little mountain right off of it.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Customer called about a small rattlesnake in her driveway, upon arrival the snake had made its way into the road. The snake was a juvenile Western Diamondback, a little frail looking. Not much usable habitat in their front yard so snake was most likely just passing through in search of food or water. Hiked the snake out to a small patch of remaining desert east of the neighborhood and placed it into a deep burrow under a creosote bush.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner saw the rattlesnake in her front yard near the drain openings that lead to the backyard. She tried to block them from the inside to keep the snake from entering the backyard, but it ended up going there anyway. I caught it coiled under a chair in the backyard. The home backs up to a small desert strip that runs along a large canal. The backyard had no shade or vegetation.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner had a pool guy out, and he said that as he was walking in the back gate, he saw a rattlesnake making its way out of the backyard. This was an odd time to see it because it was 100 degrees out and the turf was very hot. I checked her backyard first, and she didn’t have much cover. I then went to the neighbor’s courtyard, which was very close, and found the snake coiled by their front door. The homes have a lot of desert just across the street.

8:00 PM
Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner called about a rattlesnake in their backyard. The Western Diamondback had settled into a small divot in the dirt between two large bushes. The home backs directly onto open desert and the yard is not fenced, so the snake likely wandered in while searching for shade and water, which this yard has plenty of. The yard has many bushes and flowing water features but is well maintained, and the homeowners understand their situation: they love wildlife but do not want venomous snakes in their yard. The snake was hiked back into the desert behind their home and released in deep cover in a wash.

7:00 AM
Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners first noticed the snake on the Fourth of July, when they had guests over and were rattled at by the snake in their front entryway. It was in the corner up against the home by the front door, where the house has a large overhang that creates a very shady area. There are rocks there that provide cover, and the snake was in the corner among them. The homeowners had not been using the front door, and they noticed the snake in the same spot again today, so they wanted it removed. Their home is right off a large wash that leads to a desert hillside on one side, and there is another desert hillside behind their home. Their yard is very large, with many well-watered plants and numerous places for snakes to take shelter from the heat.

The home has a view fence that backs up to some desert that leads right to the state land not to for away. They had a little garden next to that lantana that looked like it had just been watered.

Behind the home and throughout the community, there was desert. Her yard was very well-kept, with not a lot of cover. She had a block fence and one gate.

Mesa 85207 Coachwhip The homeowner went into the garage and saw a snake inside. She tried to get it out, but while doing so, the snake slithered up into her wheel well. She had the garage door shut, so it was trapped inside. When she opened the garage, the snake was right by the door, trying to get out. I was able to grab it without any issues. She did have a small gap in the garage door, but she also had it open earlier, so it could have snuck in that way. Her property backs up to a lot of desert.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner first noticed the rattlesnake in her backyard. As she was watching it and waiting for me, she saw the rattlesnake go under her gate and out into the natural desert in between her house and the other neighbor‘s house. Her husband went out to see if he could see it, and he saw two rattlesnakes. The two rattlesnakes were fighting, then as he was looking around, he saw a third rattlesnake under another bush. That rattlesnake ended up going in a hole under the bush. I got the two other rattlesnakes under the other bush and tried watering out for the third rattlesnake, but it never came out and I searched the whole area and I could not find it. This home is right off of a golf course with some natural desert in between and they have a little mountain hillside right beside them. It is a rainy day and not hot so the snake had full range to go do what they wanted. Their backyard is a view fence with one gate.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner called about a western diamondback rattlesnake curled up along her wall in her backyard. The yard was very large and surrounded by desert on all sides of the home, with multiple entry points for snakes to enter the yard. Yard was very spacious, but did have some areas that I suggested the homeowner take care of in order to minimize the potential for rattlesnakes to find her yard useful. Hike the snake into the desert at a nearby trailhead and release it into a large Packrat nest at the base of a large Palo Verde tree.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner called about a rattlesnake in their backyard. By the time I arrived, the western diamondback had made himself comfortable underneath a large bush. After trying to get him out for about 10 minutes, I finally was able to get him. He ended up climbing up towards the top of the bush which made for a fun removal. Yard has minimal entry points and they are all fenced, however, they would like us to come look at the fencing and explore other possibilities that may have lead to the snake being in their yard. There are a few drainage pipes that come from their neighbors house and empty into their yard, we think the snake potentially came through there because the fencing is pretty tight. I hiked the snake back into the nearby desert and placed it into a packrat nest at the base of a large ironwood tree. Mesa.

Mesa 85207 Sonoran Gophersnake The property manager called for the tenants in this home. Last night they were in the backyard and lifted an electrical box and saw a snake inside. They weren’t sure what kind of snake it was but they wanted me to go see if it was still there. It was a large gophersnake and it was still in the box and I was able to get it out safely. The front and back yard don’t have much cover. They do have a shed that looked pretty secure and no rodent activity under it. Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner stepped into the garage from the house and saw the rattlesnake slithering in front of the door. I found the snake under some stuff, not too far from there. The garage door had gaps in the corners so the snake could easily get in and out. The home was a few homes away from the open desert. This was a neonate and it had plenty of places in the garage to be tucked away and out of sight.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner found the snake in the road out in front of his house last night. He put it in a bucket and called me today to come get it. Behind his home was a rocky hillside but that was the only desert habitat nearby. This was a small hill surrounded by homes and a highway. A few blocks away was some more desert not much that surrounded Mesa community college . I wouldn’t assume this area has many rattlesnake left because of how little habitat is around. He said the trash guy came yesterday and it was after that when he saw the neonate. I wonder if the snake had been transported to this area on accident. Either way it could not survive long in this area without being seen again so I took it to a better area.

Mesa 85207 Whiptail Lizard The homeowner called about a snake in a glue trap. Upon arrival, I discovered that it was actually two whiptail lizards, and because one of the lizard’s tails was sticking out of the glue trap I could see how someone unfamiliar with snakes could mistake that for a snake tail. Spray olive oil to the rescue, and 10 mins later both lizards were free and placed into a small rodent hole in the nearby desert.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner stated they noticed the rattlesnake curled up in the corner of a shaded gravel area at the front of her home as she was going to work on her bench project, which she had left there to dry. When I arrived she was able to direct me right to where it was perfectly blended in to the gravel against the home as described. The rattlesnake was easily captured and contained in the bucket. The home is located within a gated community of homes with very naturalistic desert-type landscaping and large yards with lots of desert foliage, the community sits very close to the nearby Regional Park.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Rattlesnake was in the front yard in a bougainvillea bush. The homeowner had a recent influx of rattlesnakes this year due to nearby construction. She was bitten by one on her property many years ago while dragging her dog away from the snake. Interested in snake fencing. Concrete wall all around the property with 1 RV gate and 1 side gate. She is worried about the concrete not being level underneath RV gate but it did not look like it was uneven to my eyes or anything out of the norm but just a heads up.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner’s pool person was cleaning the pool and looked in the skimmer and saw the rattlesnake. He shut the lid and didn’t look back. When I arrived, I lifted the heavy granite lid and the poor snake was squished and motionless. I assumed the snake was dead because it was not moving and was squished. When I went to open my bucket back up to put it in the desert the snake was moving and rattling and looked to be doing ok. It had a little gash on its neck, but I think with time it’ll make a full recovery. The home had a lot of natural desert around it.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner called about a small western diamondback rattlesnake that was curled up next to his garage door. The snake was still in the same spot when I arrived, taking advantage of the shade that the house was providing. The homeowner said the snake was in the same spot yesterday and he tried to spray it with water to get it to leave, but it ended up coming back to the same spot today. I told him that he probably increased his chances of the snake staying there because the snake figured it could get a drink of water in that area. Home is surrounded by a golf course with a lot of open patches of desert in between houses.

When she looked this morning she saw the big gophersnake in the corner of her garage and its head was stuck in a sticky trap. She has a little desert drainage behind her home and also a golf course nearby.

Mesa 85207 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowners called after going to take their trash out to the road and they heard the buzzing of a small rattlesnake. They spotted the snake and called our hotline to which I came out and the snake was as described behind the garbage cans. The snake was extremely small still for this time of year, but I noticed that it had some old injuries that looked as though they had healed at this point. Perhaps stunting its growth a bit. I contained the snake and brought it to the next nearby desert habitat and released it appropriately into deep cover with lots of nearby resources. The home it was relocated from is in a gated community that sits against the mountainside of a small local Mountain with lots of natural habitat. The home has partially block fencing and partially view fencing, but we discussed the potential of rattlesnake-proofing their backyard. They also have dogs. They are interested in getting rattlesnake aversion training or at least doing the fencing to protect them in the backyard.
