The snake was dead and I’m not sure how. I think it overheated. There was plenty of shade and places for the snake to hide in the shade so I’m not too sure what happened it was perfectly intact and didn’t look like it was dead long. The homeowner has kids so would like fencing she has a brick fence with a gate and drain hole.

The neonate western diamondback was under some plywood on the site. There was a snake shed under the wood too, it had just shed.

3:00 PM		 Mesa 85212 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake At this facility there are two large holes at the corner of a little bridge that go really deep and to the desert on the outside. There was a rattlesnake seen outside the hole, but it kept going in, so we couldn’t get it. Today they saw two, and one went in the hole, but I was able to grab one that was out cruising. We dumped water in the holes and found out they do go to the desert so they are going to plug the holes.

The box was next to a big shipping container and a lot more construction stuff on the ground. The whole area is surrounded by pockets of desert and the airport.

The hole is too large to flood out. I got a snake from this same hole about a month ago. They did fill the hole but with the rain it opened back up.

I walked the entire property and actually found a Kingsnake but they wanted to leave that. I looked underneath the manufactured home where they said they’ve seen a large diamondback before, but I did not see anything.

The snake didn’t really have any desert habitat left in the area. The small section of desert that was left had bulldozers in it. The yard didn’t have much for cover or vegetation in the back. Up front they had a few rosemary plants and lantanas. They have a block fence and one gate.

10:00 PM		 Mesa 85212 Mojave Rattlesnake A tenant Mesa called to report a snake curled up outside their front door. They snapped a photo and sent it to me, and I was able to identify it as a Mojave Rattlesnake. This is an unusual area for a rattlesnake—there are some patches of desert to the south of the apartments, but they’re currently being developed. The snake was likely pushed out of that habitat and ended up at the complex. Unfortunately, this meant I had to find an alternative release site, as the only remaining habitat within its home range is now gone. I transported the snake a few miles east to open desert and released it into a large creosote mound near a wash, where it will hopefully acclimate and live a long life.
