Mesa | 85212 | Mojave Rattlesnake | A tenant Mesa called to report a snake curled up outside their front door. They snapped a photo and sent it to me, and I was able to identify it as a Mojave Rattlesnake. This is an unusual area for a rattlesnake—there are some patches of desert to the south of the apartments, but they’re currently being developed. The snake was likely pushed out of that habitat and ended up at the complex. Unfortunately, this meant I had to find an alternative release site, as the only remaining habitat within its home range is now gone. I transported the snake a few miles east to open desert and released it into a large creosote mound near a wash, where it will hopefully acclimate and live a long life. |
