It was most likely hiding in some construction debris put there temporarily when the patio pavers were being completed. This is in the middle of the neighborhood ... and with an adult rattlesnake, that is unusual to be here.

At the time of my arrival, about an hour after the call, the snake was being watched by several homeowners riding the foundation of a house 3 doors down across the street! Captured healthy adult western diamondback. The customer already has our fencing installed .

Arrived, removed all rocks to find a rodent hole under concrete poured for the grotto. Smashed through concrete to access hole. Flooded hole and captured Sonoran gopher snake. It was in the high 30s last night and the snake wasn’t really in a good spot for warmth. This was this years baby healthy little one. Three houses down there was a large desert wash I believe the snake probably came from there. The yard didn’t have much for cover.

Then they quickly realized it had a head and sure enough it was a juvenile rattlesnake just coiled up in the cup holder enjoying its winter.

The snake was in the front yard hiding in lantana. Likely came from a golf course across the street, lots of construction also happening in the area. Advised the homeowner on how to trim Lantana to avoid attracting snakes.

He lost sight of the snake so I looked around when I got there and found it under some trash in the backyard. This yard was just dirt no plants and some trash laying around. They have a brick fence and one gate. This is a new community still being built up surrounded by desert.

So they had a ton of empty boxes stacked up. The homeowner went to move one and saw two snakes. I moved all the boxes and found both the western diamondbacks and one had shed its skin under there so they have probably been there awhile. They have a brick fence all the way around and an RV gate. They live really close to the open desert.
