Arrived at home and approached front door where I noticed young adult atrox in ambush in the corner of entryway. I then noticed another large adult atrox behind a planter pot around the corner from the entryway. Used tongs to capture first atrox. Snake struck my tongs twice as I captured it. Used tongs again to capture second atrox and bucketed without incident. Performed inspection of the rest of the front yard and backyard. Customer stated she had not noticed the larger atrox at all and believes it may have arrived after the smaller one. No other snakes were found, but I did find a deceased gamble’s quail in the backyard. Backyard had RS fence installed earlier in the summer. Both snakes came from the wash which ran to the north behind and to the east of home. I suspect one of the snakes, perhaps the larger one, may have been in pursuit of the quail which had gotten into the backyard. Thankfully the fence worked and kept both rattlesnakes out. |
