The security guard stated he was not the one to find or scoop up the snake, was unsure of where it originally came from. Making it harder to narrow down the places to look for other babies.

Arrived at the customer’s home and was greeted at the front door. The customer pointed out where the snake was. I saw a small juvenile gophersnake against the baseboard hidden by the curtain. I used my hands to capture and bucket a the snake with no incident. I Inspected the backyard and the rest of the home. No other snakes were found. Home was in an urbanized area, but there was some desert habitat northeast of a canal that bordered the property. There was a small drainage wash behind the home. I suspect the snake came from the drainage wash and into the backyard through the side gates as that was the only point of entry. The customer stated they left the back patio door slightly open because of the nice weather. Provided the customer some education on snake behavior this time of year. Informed the customer that snakes are rarely seen in the area of his home.

It had been raining so the little one probably came out for a drink. The only thing in the back yard that would be suitable for winter was a grill island. The courtyard had bricks for flooring and some up against the house weren’t sealed that well. The snake could have potentially been hibernating there, or their garage just around the corner had big gaps in the corners. Across the street they had a drainage area that had a bunch of stacked rocks which also would have provided a nice warm spot for winter. Hard to say for sure where it had been it was very small still.

Where the turf met up with the block wall there was an area that was indented. They assumed it was under there. I pulled back the turf to discover a rattlesnake and a bloody squirrel. The squirrel was still alive but was on its way out so I put it with the snake. After looking around I believe the snake may have been hibernating in a near by hot tub and smelt out the rodent that had a hole under the turf. The home backs up to desert and has a view fence with high block bottom.

I grabbed the snake with my hand and put it into a bucket. The snake was released on the west side of the campus in a pack rat nest.

7:30 PM		 Phoenix 85050 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Homeowner was taking out his trash and found a baby western diamondback behind his recycle bin which is located in his backyard near his front gate. He went inside to call and then out front to wait with his neighbor. He could see the rattlesnake underneath the gate but then lost sight of it. When I arrived, it had easily slithered under the gate and come into the front yard. The homeowner has block walls in most areas, with 1 area with some view fence. There are gaps on both sides of his house where he had stacked bricks to keep out snakes but the baby atrox was able to climb through. He is very interested in someone coming out and giving him a quote for fencing improvements.

Backyard has one entry point under side gate and another entry point in a wall drainage hole near gate.
