Tucson 85730 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake I took the snake down into Pantano Wash, roughly 100 yards from the property. I placed it at the edge of a burrow leading into a packrat midden complex. It remained coiled and silent, its head hidden, until I adjusted its placement a few times and it realized it was at the mouth of the burrow. At that point, it quickly disappeared inside.

Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Received a call about a rattlesnake in a backyard. Customers stated they believed the snake had just eaten something because it was slow and fat. I advised them it could be a gravid snake. When I arrived at the home, I was escorted to the backyard by the customer. They said they first noticed the snake stretched out in the yard while taking out the garbage. They also pointed out a large, dead spiny lizard they believed the snake was about to eat. They showed me where they last saw the snake move underneath a large cycad near the pool. I did a quick perimeter search of the backyard first before inspecting underneath the cycad. I used a hook to lift up the foliage of the cycad and noted a large atrox in ambush against the plant. I used the hook in an attempt to drag the snake out from underneath the plant before using tongs to capture it. The snake moved around the cycad, and I used tongs to capture it and the hook for support in case the snake was gravid. Once in the bucket, I looked at the snake and believed it was just a larger male. The rattle appeared to have been broken off about halfway down. The snake had a mellow demeanor. I inspected the rest of the backyard and noted several areas of concern: overgrown bushes off the back patio, several large vines that had grown over three walls, and a shed with several pieces of pottery stacked up against it. I pointed all of these out to the customer. Given the apparent age of the snake, I informed the customers it may have been in the yard for some time and encouraged landscaping for all the plants I identified. The only opening where a snake could get through that I observed was the gate on the eastern side yard. Otherwise, the gate seems difficult for snakes to get through. Drainage holes in the bricks were covered by 1/4” mesh. I offered the customer a free quote for fencing, and they agreed. There is a desert wash just one house over to the northeast.

Phoenix 85048 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner spotted the rattlesnake a few hours before she called, while she was out in her backyard. She watched it slither around and then lost sight of it as it went under a grill on the back patio. I eventually located the snake under the pool equipment just around the corner, coiled up. This property didn’t have much cover besides the pool equipment area. The backyard backs directly up to a South Mountain hillside.

10:30 AM
Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner saw a rattlesnake go into a hole by his pool. This snake had been seen three days in a row around the property. I grabbed a hose and put it in the hole, walked over to turn the water on, and by the time I got back the snake had already vacated the hole and darted into another hole nearby. I then started flooding that hole and, while waiting, walked around the pool deck. Lo and behold, the snake was at eye level up in a palm tree. The home sits on 5 acres, is surrounded by desert, and clearly has an extensive underground tunnel system. I was able to grab the snake out of the palm and release it nearby into a pack rat nest.

Scottsdale 85260 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was outside with her dogs when she heard them barking at a snake by the back fence. She brought the dogs inside and watched the rattlesnake. It was at the edge of her grass, out in the open, in a very small patch of shade. It was 106 degrees out, and I was very surprised it was where it was. She had a few smaller rosemary plants in the backyard, which were the only shady spots besides her back patio. The home had a desert drainage behind it and some desert beside it that led to a larger desert area.

Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner spotted this western diamondback curled up beneath a backyard bush. The property had desert on three sides and gaps under multiple gates. My guess is that it came through the back gate, which was right next to a wash. The snake was easily secured, given some water, and released.

Tucson 85748 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Customer had taken his two small Scottish terriers out to the back yard to use the bathroom. He “heard a hiss” and saw the dogs investigating the snake. Once the dogs were safely inside they called us. The snake had crawled back out of the yard and was headed to the wash when i arrived. There is a gap under the gate that they would like to be inspected by the fencing team.

Cave Creek 85331 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner had landscapers out, and they discovered the snake in the backyard. The snake was just off the back patio, coiled up in a shady corner against the home. The yard was well-kept, probably because the landscapers had just been there. They had a view fence with some desert behind them. This community has desert between the homes and several washy areas that split the homes.

Scottsdale 85259 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner was outside with her puppy when she heard a rattling sound. The dog backed away from the noise, and they both went inside. The snake was by the back patio, up against the house. I searched everywhere in her front and back yard but couldn’t find the snake. I then checked a sprinkler box near where she had last seen it and found the snake inside. She had some vegetation in the backyard that could be trimmed, but this was a corner house adjacent to a desert mountainside. The yard had a partial view fence and one gate.

5:00 AM
Maricopa 85138 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Received call about a rattlesnake in a garage at a home in Maricopa. When I arrived at the home the homeowner and daughter were standing outside of the garage. Homeowner pointed in the area he last saw the snake. Customer stated that while he never saw the snake (his wife did) he had kept his eyes on the garage and nothing had exited. After initial inspection of the garage was unsuccessful I asked the homeowner again if he had his eyes on the garage for the entire time (I was an hour away). Customer then stated that he did briefly leave to lock his back gate. I then moved outside to check the perimeter of the home. Customer had a hesperaloe just off the front porch area and I noted an adult atrox in ambush underneath it. Used tongs to capture snake with no issue. Performed another inspection of the garage, front and backyards with no other snakes found. Backyard was various construction materials like bricks and tiles piled up in some of the corners. Inspected these areas well and and advised customer to clear those areas. Offered free fencing quote but customer declined. Though the neighborhood borders open desert I did not notice any access points close by. Subdivision has a wall surrounding the neighborhood but from what I could tell there were no drainage holes and definitely no desert washes going into the neighborhood. I suspect the snake may have lived in the neighborhood for some time.
