12:00 PM |
Phoenix | 85085 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Arrived at the customer’s home for a call about two rattlesnakes in the front yard. The family was gathered in the driveway with several children present. The customer pointed to a cassia bush, where I observed two smaller adult Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes (C. atrox) locked in mating. The snakes appeared aware of the crowd but remained locked, with the male twitching his head. I secured the area and used tongs to lift one snake and a hook to lift the other, providing additional support. I placed the bucket in the shade and then inspected both the front and back yards. The home has a wash directly to the east that runs up a hill into open habitat. The front yard and the mouth of the wash blend together, and this is where the snakes were found. No additional snakes were found on the property. The backyard was generally neat and tidy, with few areas where a snake could hide for long. The customer has one small dog. The backyard is enclosed by a high block wall, with one gate on the west side. The customer has installed a framed screen directly in the gate opening, requiring anyone entering the yard to step over it. The side yard on the west side of the house has drainage blocks, which I pointed out to the customer as a potential access point. I offered a free fencing quote, but the customer did not respond to the offer. |

Phoenix | 85085 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Very nice couple who had a Yorkie terrier who has been bit 4 times previously by rattlesnakes and almost lost its leg per their report. Their dog has completed rattlesnake training and they were happy the dog was scared of the bucket and snake inside. Snake was found in their shaded walkway and the couple diligently watched snake for 1.5 hours, in a chair eating snacks, from a safe distance as directed. Apparently we had been out a week earlier and they did not watch the snake and it got away/could not be found. The couple was very happy. |

Phoenix | 85085 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | This homeowner has already had us out once this year, as their property is open to the desert and has everything a snake would like. There are dense, low bushes, plenty of food sources, and the homeowner even leaves water dishes throughout the property for wildlife. It’s no surprise this is the fourth one this year. This guy had found a comfortable spot on the patio, where I was able to grab him and relocate him southeast of the property, back into his home range. |

Searched the park area next to the house and found a yearling gopher snake hunting in an old quail nest under a bush. Captured the snake and educated the customer that it is harmless and was just taking shelter on his patio to cool down. Customer is interested in rattlesnake fencing. He already has mesh installed that looks decent. There appear to be wall gaps and a single gate on a hard surface. Customer inquired about a discount on fencing after paying for removal; I told him I would let the fencing team make that call. |
