8:30 AM		 Marana 85658 Western Diamondback Rattlesnake The homeowner reported taking their dog to an emergency veterinarian for a snakebite this morning. The yard had recently been fitted with snake fencing by Mr. Packrat. Inspection of the northwest wall revealed a previously missed gap between the house and the perimeter wall. Several homes are under construction around the property, with one in particular located close to this gap. A survey of the property revealed two large Texas ranger bushes. An adult female Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (WDB) was found coiled in ambush beneath one of them. No additional snakes were found, but several small ingress points were noted near the gate on the south side of the property. I recommended that the fencing contractor return to repair any gaps or provide an estimate for the necessary work.

They have several gates that need to be fenced, as well as the entire back wall, which currently has hardware cloth along it, but it isn’t secure enough to be considered snake-proof.

When it got too hot the snake would disappear into a valve box next to its normal hangout spot. They had a plumber coming out and wanted us to move the snake so as not to scare them. The snake was in the rather deep (.75 meter?) Valve box cavity along with a large desert hairy scorpion and the desiccated corpse of a rodent.
