New River | 85087 | Gila Monster | The homeowner called about a Gila Monster on his porch. The rural New River Property sat on a half-acre lot and was surrounded by hilly native desert. He had a very large chicken coop that housed various types of fowl in addition to chickens. He insisted that the Gila Monster would not have been able to enter the enclosure. The man had his own snake tongs and while I was route, he put the lizard into a bucket out of fear that it would escape to his neighbor's property and be killed. No other reptiles were found. |

New River | 85087 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | The homeowner called about a rattlesnake that was coiled up and resting in the shade on the side of his New River Home. He had seen the snake the driveway the night before and figured it would likely leave the area. Additionally, a fresh shed was recently found in the garage. I explained that the snake may have overwintered in the garage, which was very clean and well organized, but did have a large refrigerator and separate freezer unit. The home was on the edge of a development, with a view fence overlooking the New River wash. The homeowner had installed his own snake fencing, but there were several areas that were not adequately sealed. I searched the rest of the property and the garage but did not find any other snakes. |

New River | 85087 | Western Diamondback Rattlesnake | Homeowners dog is avoidance trained and alerted to a western diamondback in the rear yard. The homeowner was able to keep an eye on it until I arrived. The snake was removed without incident. No other snakes were recovered. This home is completely unprotected and backed straight to a desert area. Itβs likely the vegetation and large pool are attracting these snakes. |
