A Peoria homeowner spotted a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake coiled beneath some pavers in the corner of his porch, just a few feet from the front door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Marissa arrived, she noticed several tiny rattlesnake sheds around the pavers. After carefully moving some of them to get access to the snake, the story became pretty clear. She found five baby rattlesnake sheds along with the shed of an adult female.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mom was still there, but the babies were not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rattlesnakes give birth to live young, and the neonates typically remain around the birth site for a relatively short period before dispersing. Based on all the sheds but no babies, this little family had apparently already reached that point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The location also made sense. A large drainage runs immediately beside the property, with a desert mountainside across the street. Mom had simply found a protected little space beneath the pavers to give birth, and by the time we were called, her babies had already headed off on their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
