{"id":2983,"date":"2026-09-03T07:32:25","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T14:32:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rattlesnakesolutions.com\/fieldherper\/?p=2983"},"modified":"2026-09-03T07:32:26","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T14:32:26","slug":"a-barking-frog-emerges-on-a-wet-monsoon-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rattlesnakesolutions.com\/fieldherper\/amphibians\/a-barking-frog-emerges-on-a-wet-monsoon-night\/","title":{"rendered":"A Barking Frog Emerges on a Wet Monsoon Night"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I got a chance to photograph this <a href=\"https:\/\/rattlesnakesolutions.com\/fieldherper\/category\/amphibians\/anura\/craugastor\/\" data-type=\"category\" data-id=\"806\">Barking Frog<\/a> (<em>Craugastor augusti<\/em>) on a soaking wet night in the mountains of <a href=\"https:\/\/rattlesnakesolutions.com\/fieldherper\/tag\/sky-islands\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"267\">southeastern Arizona<\/a>. These relatively large frogs spend nearly their entire lives stuffed into deep fissures and caves on steep, rocky cliffs. On the right nights during the monsoon, they&#8217;ll emerge for a short time, where they can be detected on the surface.
